Here we are in 2023. Wishing you all a very happy and healthy New Year.
The Christmas season brought its joys and sorrows to the Knockdown area. James Shanahan, formerly of Glenbawn, but now living in USA got engaged and we wish him lots of happy years ahead. The Carrigkerry wrenboys entertained a huge crowd in Knockdown with lively music, song and dance. This is a great way to meet up with neighbours and friends. One very heavy shower did not deter them and they continued to play as they edged in closer under the shelter around the petrol pumps. Well done to them all for the great entertainment. While visiting my daughter, Lisa Daly, we were treated to another batch. I call them the Mohernagh batch; again great music from the comfort of our chairs.
But New Year’s Eve brought a great sadness with the sudden death of Mary Stanley, Mohernagh. It sent shock waves throughout the parish. Sincere sympathies to all her lovely family and to her siblings who are all living in local parishes. It is true that we never know the day nor the hour. Sympathies too to the Flaherty family on the death of Patrick (Paty) who died on Christmas Day. May they rest in peace.
But, life must go on and so THE BUDS OF BALLYBUNION by JOHN B. KEANE will be performed in THE TINTEAN THEATRE, in BALLYBUNION on Saturday night January 28 at 7.30pm by the Abha Bhán Players. Book online at www.tintean.ie. This will give a chance to those who could not get tickets for the Ballyhahill performances to see the play. We hope it will also attract many people from further afield so spread the word please. Great entertainment is guaranteed.
