LIGHT UP CHRISTMAS TRACTOR RUN. There was great excitement, lights and noise in Knockdown on Sunday evening at 7 pm when Estuary Rollers rolled into town with their tractors all lit up like Christmas trees. I was delighted to see that they came up from Glin via the Ballyhahill/Clounleharde road as I could see the whole thing from my front room. The first tractors were in Knockdown before the last of them came over Fitzmaurice’s Hill with horns blaring and lights flashing. The run started in Listowel Livestock Mart and travelled through Moyvane, Tarbert, Glin before finishing in Knockdown. This year the group have chosen two local charities: Kerry Hospice and the Neonatal Care Unit Limerick Maternity Hospital. Both of these are very close to the hearts of the committee members and have touched the lives of many families and friends in the surrounding parishes. If anyone wishes to contribute they can do so through https://gofund.me/820551eb. All support will be greatly appreciated, I am sure.
I was watching Hector on TV during the week as he travelled around Lithuania talking to various people, as he does. While chatting to one man who had good English he asked where he learned his English. “I worked in Costello’s factory in Glin, Co. Limerick for a while,” he said. Isn’t it a very small little world? I was amused by it.
Christmas is speeding towards us once again reminding us of how fast time goes as we get older. It is nice to see the excitement of the grandchildren as they look forward to Santa while also watching the elves watching them each day. It’s a new trend which causes as much excitement as Santa himself!
