Saint Kieran’s lost to Ballygiblin Cork by 3-12 to 0-11 in the Munster Junior Hurling Club Championship final played at Mallow Sports Complex on Sunday, December 4. It was a dry cold day with a biting wind and the club had great support. St. Kieran’s played with the wind and Darragh Treacy opened the scoring from play and a further point from Ian Mackessy saw them 2 points to 1 ahead. An injury to James Muckell disrupted the team and his loss was really felt as he had the ability to win ball and convert it into scores. Ballygiblin scored two quick goals and for all their possession St Kieran’s trailed by 5 points. Ian Mackessy from frees kept his team in touch but an opportunist goal in injury time saw Ballygiblin lead by 3-2 to 0-7 at half time.
The winners dominated the second half with the wind at their backs and free taker Joseph O’Sullivan converted all the frees to see them comfortably ahead at the final whistle. TEAM: Cillian Ambrose, Diarmuid Mulcahy, Paudie McCarthy, Aaron Heffernan, Jack Ben Harnett, Brendan McCarthy, Cathal McEnery, Sean Ryan, Mossie Shine, Darragh Treacy 0-1, Johnny McCarthy, Cormac Mann, Ian Mackessy 0-10 (Captain), Eoin McEnery, James Muckell. Subs: Donie Nolan, Anthony Molyneaux, Mike Flynn. The team had a great year winning the county unbeaten and gave their all in Munster against a very good Cork team. Well done to all the panel of players, management and all associated with the team.
