OUT AND ABOUT
Well the Winter has truly come in with a Bang. As I do my few lines this Monday night, we are experiencing huge amounts of rain coupled with wind, however we must not despair as homes in Scotland have been flooded this past week and Indonesia has hundreds killed and missing following a bad earthquake there at the weekend.
Sympathy is extended to those who have lost loved ones recently. The family of Jack Mahony, formerly of Templeathea, were in Australia visiting Jack their brother when he passed away last week. He was laid to rest in Australia. Condolences to his family in Australia and his brothers and sisters here in Athea .May he rest in peace.
The passing of Nardus Russouw of Rathfarnam, Dublin at a young age came as a shock to his family and friends. A beautiful ceremony at Newlands Cross Crematorium last week remembered various aspects of his life here in Ireland and South Africa where he grew up. We offer sincere sympathy to his wife Tracy, his 3 young children Leon, Noah and Maya, to Tommy and Sheila Moran his in-laws, relatives and many friends. May he go to his eternal reward.
The death took place at the weekend of Anne Molyneaux, former housekeeper of Canon Kelly, at Beechwood Nursing Home, Newcastlewest. Her remains reposed at Healy’s Funeral Parlour, Glin on Monday evening. Burial followed Requiem Mass on Tuesday. Sympathy to her relatives and friends in Glin and Athea. May the light of Heaven be Hers.
Well Christmas will be all over today 5 weeks and it looks like families are being much more Sensible this year and I suppose everyone is feeling The Pinch with the way everything is going up in price. We are so lucky here in Athea to have Collins’ Shop at our Beck and Call – 7 days a week and open early till late. It’s so important that we support our Local Business people in the locality as we don’t want to end up A GHOST TOWN.
We Wish Eamon McElligott, of Brown Joe’s, all the very best with his beautiful newly renovated kitchen and Upstairs Dining Room which is now open for Christmas. Bookings and Meal Vouchers can be bought next week ideal Christmas Presents. And isn’t it wonderful to see new ventures opening in our little village rather than closing .
The Friends of St. Ita’s have a lovely C.D. on sale at the moment entitled AUTUMN-MELODIES. It can be bought here in Athea at Collins’ Shop for just 10 Euro, with all proceeds going to help to buy new equipment for the hospital. Canon Tony Mullins even features on the C.D. along with many other notable artists. A nice gift for music lovers for Christmas.
