CELEBRATIONS ALL AROUND

It was a week of celebrations for many here in Athea this past week and we wish all those who had Happy Events all the very best and hopefully they all enjoyed their respective Happy Celebrations.

To start sincere congrats are extended to Nora and Seanie OMahony of Markievicz Park who on Saturday night last celebrated their GOLDEN JUBILEE  – 50 years of wedded bliss along with their family at Brown Joe’s here in Athea. Here’s to many more years of Health and Happiness to them both.

A Fancy Dress Party  was the order of the night last week when Karina Buckley, of Templeathea, held her 50th birthday party at the Top of The Town. Agreat night was enjoyed by family and friends.

Cillian O’Connor of Lower Athea celebrated his 18th birthday at his home in Lower Athea along with his family and many friends, on Saturday night last in their marquee.

Jerry Griffin of School Road, Athea had a lovely 80th birthday celebration along with his wife Kathleen and his family recently when they went out for a meal, all having a lovely time.

Pat Walsh of Lower Athea also recently celebrated his 60th birthday at the Top Of The Town, again everyone had a nice time.

Another great celebration this weekend was the Athea/Shannon Gaels Under 17s who, on Saturday last, met near neighbours St. Kieran’s in their Shield Final in Mick Neville Park in Rathkeale and what an Exciting game that turned out to be with huge support from both sides. We were down by 6-7 points with a short time to go, however 2 goals and a point equalised the teams. Extra time had to be played and Lo and Behold, we came out winners by 2 points in what can only be described as nothing but a Glorious finish on a lovely sunny morning. Well done to the players and especially the coaches and management and their parents for their support always. They were treated at Brown Joe’s afterwards to food etc .

The Fair Day this past Saturday attracted many to our village with the usual Stalls, Horses, pony’s and fowl etc. It  was great that the day was so  nice and dry for the event which naturally made such a huge difference.

Sunday mass has returned at 11am since this past weekend for the duration of Winter Time and will revert again to Saturday evenings at the start of Summer -Time again.

You are invited to place the names of your loved ones and friends on the remembrance tree near the altar, where they will be remembered during November.

Thought for the week:-

Words of Wisdom—

Saying THANKS MAKES YOU A MAN.

And saying THANKS  costs  NOTHING.
