ATHEA ALIVE AND BUZZING

The first evening of Winter time this Sunday evening as I start to do my few lines, and my goodness it’s got so dark so early. Never mind we won’t dwell on it too long, as hopefully next time around when the time change has been discussed in Europe we won’t be changing anymore fingers crossed, and today 9 weeks is Christmas day so it will fly.

As it was remarked by many not too long ago and i quote – There is always something going on in ATHEA, and today was no exception. The Big Pink Breakfast at the Hall had a great Buzz around as many came to donate to Cancer and enjoy a chat and of course the lovely food that was on offer, the Pancakes going down a Treat. Well done to all the volunteers who made it possible and gave of their time and energy.

Athea was ALIVE in the Afternoon as Vintage cars Tractors and Large Trucks hooted through much to the delight of onlookers especially our young kids who were fascinated, well done.

Next Saturday no doubt our little village will be Alive and Buzzing again as our FAIR DAY takes place. Hopefully the weather holds up so that everyone can enjoy the day.

Sincere Congrats go to Tracy Mulvihill, daughter of Bill and Bridget of Upper Athea, who has become engaged to Conor O’Leary of Ballaugh in Australia, wishing them all the very best DOWN UNDER.

Thanks to all who gave so generously to the Epilepsy church gate collection  at the weekend it was much appreciated.

Sympathy is extended to Vito Missorici of Templeathea on the death of his father Antonio in Italy. May the light of heaven be his.

The death also took place last week of Kathleen Moore, formerly of Hillside Drive,  who had been in the care of the staff of St ITA’S Hospital  for the past few years, and passed away at the regional hospital Limerick. Many came to pay their final respects at Kelly’s funeral parlour. Burial took place following Requiem Mass in Templeathea cemetery. Sincere sympathy to her son Pa and daughters Margaret and Catherine, relatives and friends.  May she rest in peace.

Don’t forget your shoeboxes for the TEAM HOPE Christmas Appeal -November 8th is the deadline to have them handed into your nearest drop off point for collection.

Well done to Athea Tidy Towns who last week were highly commended  and came away from the Strand Hotel in Limerick with  a well deserved prize of 1,500 Euro. Also they have moved up in placings and should be commended for all their work making Athea  such a vibrant place .

Thought For The Week:-

CHILDREN ARE THE RAINBOW OF LIFE

GRANDCHILDREN ARE THE POT OF GOLD.
