Congratulations and best wishes in the future to Neilus Brouder, Glensharrold, Carrigkerry and Leanne Quilligan, Newcastle West, who were married in Castlemahon  Church on Saturday, October 29. They held their reception in the Woodlands House Hotel, Adare.

The death has taken place of Michael (Tony) Ahern, formerly of Glensharrold, Carrigkerry in Australia on Tuesday, October 18. Predeceased by his wife Margaret. He passed away peacefully at home in Warragul, Australia, surrounded by his family. His Requiem Mass was held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church Iona, Victoria, Australia on Wednesday,  November 2. Burial afterwards in Gulwarra Heights Memorial  Park,  Warragul, Victoria. Sympathy to children Ann-Maree, Melissa, Erin, Michael, Loretta, grandchildren Malie, Jude, Eddie, Maia, Micah,  Tommy, Billy, father-in-law of Chantelle,  Thush,  Troy, extended family  members in Limerick and friends. May he rest in Peace.

Sympathy is extended to Brendan and Joan Duggan and family, School Road, Ardagh on the death of Brendan’s brother, Patrick (Patsy) in Birmingham, England on Monday, October 17. He was a native of Sugarhill, Templeglantine. Burial in Birmingham and may he rest in Peace.

Congratulations  and happy spending to Sabrina Cahill, Ardagh who recently won the Athea United AFC Lottery Jackpot of € 18,200.

Limerick City and County Council gives notice of its intention  to consider  the making of an order  under Section 11 of the Roads Acts 1993 to declare the road Gleann Daire, Ardagh to be a public road. Maps and details are available to view at Council offices in Limerick and Newcastle West up to Friday, November 11. Any objections or representations  in relation to the proposed takeover, must be made in writing  to the Director of Services, Planning, Environment and Place-Making, Dooradoyle, Co. Limerick before 5pm on Friday, November 25, 2022, will be considered prior to making any declaration.

Tom Moran Athea and the Red Cow Hotel, Dublin, recently presented hurleys and sliotars to the children in St. Molua’s National School, Ardagh. Tom’s mission is to promote hurling/camogie with a view to seeing our area represented at All Ireland level. The children held a fundraiser for Goal Jersey Day and raised €225.30.

Creeves Celtic lost 3-0 at home  to Glin Rovers in the Premier Division of the Desmond League on Sunday, October 23. Carrig Celtic had no match. In the Desmond Ladies League, Kilcolman Rovers v Creeves Celtic was off.

The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery draw took place on Monday, October 24. The numbers drawn were 5,,12,,19,,25, and  there was  no  winner of the €10,000 Jackpot. Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who received  €40 each: C. Mullins c/o, Denis Greaney, Killian Enright (Online), Tom Moroney c/o Padge, Angela Enright Ardagh, John Dillane (Online). Next Monday night’s jackpot will  be €10,100. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated.

Congratulations to Mary Woulfe,  Newcastle West, who  won €340 in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday, October 28. The tickets cost €2, or 3 for €5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloneys  Carrigkerry, and Denis Greaney’s Shop Ardagh) or from the radio station. The Limerick GAA Club draw for October, took place on  Saturday 29, and announced  during the Limerick Live 95 Sports Show. The St Kieran’s club had no winner in the draw. The entry fee  is €10 per month or €20 for the remaining two draws  and €21,000 will be given out in prize money each month. The first prize is €10,000, 2nd prize €3,000, 3rd prize €2,000, 4th prize €1,000, 5th prize is an exclusive star prize, and 4  prizes of €500, four prizes €250, and 17 prizes of €100. Next month’s star prize is a €500 voucher for Smyth’s Toys.   

Communities across Limerick are being urged to donate gift-filled shoeboxes for children affected by poverty  in Eastern Europe  and Africa this Christmas. The Shoebox Appeal Week runs from Monday, October 31 to Sunday, November 6. This week  aims to encourage people to think  about the single impact , joy and smiles that a shoebox brings to the child who receives it. All people have to do is find an empty shoebox, wrap it in Christmas paper and fill it with gifts  for a boy or a girl aged between 2 and 14, give online or attach a €4 donation and bring it to a local drop off point  before November 6. People can also build a box online by donating at www. teamhope.ie

There will be no Irish dancing or Sean Nos dancing class held in the community centre, Ardagh on Friday, November 4. Classes will resume  as normal on Fridays after that at 7pm and 8pm.

Newcastle West Film Club present ”The Humans” in the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West on Friday, November 4, at 8pm. Admission €8 and refreshments available. A very large crowd attended the last showing and all are welcome.

St. Kieran’s and Dromcollogher/Broadford will contest the Limerick Junior Hurling Championship Final at Newcastle West Gaelic Grounds on Saturday. November 5 at 2pm. Best wishes to the players and management and all involved. St Kieran’s defeated Galbally by 3-10 to 1-11 in the Under 17 football Division 2 Shield semi-final replay at Galbally on Saturday, October 29. They led by 2-4 to 0-6 at half time.

The annual Fair of Athea will be held around the village on Saturday, November 5. Weather permitting it promises to be an enjoyable day out and all are welcome.

A Céilí will be held in the hall Milford on Saturday, November 5  from 9.30pm. It is a very popular venue for West Limerick dancers and a warm welcome awaits all. Music by Donie Nolan and  Taylor’s Cross  and tea served. Admission is €10.

The Irish Rambling House organised by Joe Harrington and Kay O’Leary from Lyreacrompane, Kerry  are holding two shows in Harrow London on Saturday, November 5 and Sunday, November  6.  They have been entertaining the exiles with their show  for over twenty years, but Covid has restricted the tour since 2019. The well-known Cork duo Sean O’Se and Elle Marie Dwyer, will be joined by a number of the regular musicians, singers, dancers and story tellers. Readers are asked to inform their relatives and friends in the London area of the show dates so they can attend. The tickets are by reservation only from Patrick O’Connell at 073 12032905.

Set Dancing classes with Fiona will begin in the Hall Ballyhahill  on Monday November 7, from 8pm to 9.30pm. Looking forward to seeing everyone.
