PUT BACK YOUR CLOCKS

Well this weekend sees our return to Winter Time or as some call it Old -Time. Many do not like the change especially the elderly or those living alone, however the way we should look at it maybe is at least we have something to look forward to again once the clocks change back and the time will fly. Just take it as a sort of time of hibernation or relaxation, like some of the animals who hide away for the winter.

Congrats and happy birthday wishes go to the following-Patsy O Connor of Knocknagorna had his 60th birthday at the Golf Club in Ardagh on Saturday Night last along with his family and friends, all enjoying the night.

And we can’t forget the Brothers Connie and Patie O’Sullivan of Lower Athea who celebrated their 92nd and 91st birthdays respectively during the week, indeed great milestones.

The death took place last week at St Ita’s Hospital in Newcastle of Billy Collins of Knocknagorna. Billy was well known for his great involvement in both the London and Chicago Hurling Clubs in his earlier days. Also he rejuvenated the hurling club here in Athea for the young boys and girls making a very generous donation and its going from strength to strength which is great to see. Many came to pay their respects at Kelly’s Funeral Parlour on Friday evening last. Requiem Mass on Saturday was concelebrated by Fr. Brendan Duggan assisted by Canon Tony Mullins. Burial took place in Templeathea Cemetery. May the light of heaven be his.

This weekend sees the church gate collection  in aid of Epilepsy being taken up. Your support for this worthy cause would be much appreciated.

Don’t forget the Big Pink Breakfast in aid of Cancer in the Hall this Sunday morning from 10am–1pm. Even if you can’t make the Breakfast I’m sure any donation however small would be so very welcome. You can book your tickets on 087-3869803. And of course the kids will have their Fancy Dress Competition on the Day.

All Souls Day is next Wednesday and you are asked to bring your list of all deceased loved ones you wish to remember to the church this weekend for inclusion on Wednesday 2nd.

The death has occurred in Chicago of Tom Hunt brother of the late Connie and Bill of Gortnagross, Athea. Sympathy is extended to his family and friends in Chicago where he was laid to rest on Saturday last R.I.P.

If you, like me, have spent hours picking up Leaves in recent days  I will leave you with this

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:-

Give yourself SPACE in this changing Season to reflect on what is departing. Autumn trees let go of their Leaves knowing that they will generate new Life on the ground and on the branches. We experience Many Autumns throughout our Lives, but we also know that SPRING is just as certain to come as Autumn is.
