Well little did we think from last week’s Newsletter until this week’s edition that such tragedies can occur in such a short space of time. Creeslough in Donegal was shattered to the Core on Friday last when the gas explosion ripped through the Applegreen Service Station resulting in the deaths of 10 lives. And over the weekend as their photos appeared on our screens and newspapers reality really struck home. A little 5 year old girl who went in with her dad to buy her mom a cake for her birthday and never came home. So many families hit with such heartbreaking news as the story filtered through. It could be anyone’s story. All we can do is to remember them all in our prayers. As Fr. Brian Darcy said in his column yesterday in the paper and how very true his words are and I quote –

Love those nearest and dearest to you and tell them often how much you love them. There may come a time when you may not get a chance to say these words”.

Sincere congrats go to Christopher Dalton, son of Paddy and Maureen of Dirreen, Athea who last weekend married Christina Healy of Abbeyfeale here in Athea Church. Fr. Chris O’Donnell celebrated the Nuptial Ceremony. A great day was enjoyed by family and friends at the Ballygarry House Hotel. Wishing them all the very best for the future.

Fergus Scanlon, on behalf of The Friends of St ITA’S wishes to thank everyone who gave so generously to the church gate collection on Saturday evening last. A total of €435.59  was collected which will be used to buy Hi-Tech equipment to enable stroke victims etc with their physio, letting them to get better more rapidly thereby freeing up beds. Already recently €88,000 has been spent on high class equipment.

The unexpected death occurred in Killarney last week of James Collins, formerly of Templeathea. Many from the racing circuit attended his home to offer sympathy  along with friends of the family, relatives and neighbours. Sincere sympathy is extended to his wife and young daughters. Requiem mass took place in Killarney with cremation in Shannon. May he rest in peace.

The death also occurred last week of Batt Fitzgerald of Knocknasna. Batt could always be seen on his bike cycling to ABBEYFEALE daily up to recently. His remains reposed at Hartnett’s Funeral Home on Sunday Evening. Requiem mass on Monday was followed by burial to the local cemetery. Sympathy to his relations and many friends.
