OUT AND ABOUT

I’ll start off this week by asking if anyone in our parish genuinely needs assistance during these difficult times not to forget that our Vincent De Paul conference is there if you need us. You can contact any member of the society or you can also ring 087-9574608.We are there to help and listen.

Sincere congrats are extended to Tom and Laura Brosnan of Upper Athea on the birth of their new baby girl they are calling Lucy, a little sister for Jamie and Luke who are super excited with their new baby sister. Congrats also to the proud grandparents Vito and Geraldine Missorici in Templeathea and Micheál Brosnan in Upper Athea.

Congrats also go this week to Nora Mulvihill and David Buckley who were married here in Athea Church on Saturday last. A great day was enjoyed by everyone at The Listowel Arms Hotel. Wishing them all the best for the future.

We remember this week all those who lost family members and relatives in the last few days. Sympathy is extended to Jim Geaney and his family on the passing of his mother Eilish who was the great age of 95. Many came to pay their last respects at the funeral parlour in Brosna on Thursday evening last. Requiem Mass on Friday was followed by burial in the nearby cemetery.

The death also took place last week of Michael Roche formerly of Templeathea and Charleville. A large crowd paid their final respects to his family and relatives at Howes funeral parlour in Charleville. Sympathy to his sisters Nora, Eileen, Hannah and Margaret, Noel  and Christy his brothers and many friends. May he rest in peace in Effin Cemetery.

Sister. Cornelius Mullane, who was in her 100th year, passed away peacefully at the Bon Secours Convent in Cork last week. We sympathise with her relatives and fellow sisters. Go Ndeana Dia Trocaire Le Na hAnam.

Sympathy to the Sheahan family Mike and Mary on the passing of their Uncle Jim Sheahan in Listowel last week. He reposed at Danny Lyons’ funeral home where many paid their sympathy to his family and relations.

May the light of heaven be his.

Our mass here in Athea will go to Sunday mornings as from 6th November instead of Saturday evenings, this is for winter months and darker evenings which will make it safer for the elderly. It will revert to evening mass again when Summer Time begins.

Thought for this week:- The Only Journey is the Journey Within.
