BACK. TO SCHOOL

Can you believe it, the summer holidays are almost over, where has the time gone. I suppose with the weather being so good this past while everyone was out and about, whereas if it was wet and miserable the time would drag.

Can you believe this though – I’ve seen Halloween decorations already in some of the shops. And if that wasn’t early enough, it showed Brown Thomas on TV today with their CHRISTMAS SHOP already open in Dublin. It will drive people mad. But I suppose it’s up to oneself if you want to be sensible about these things or go over the TOP and be foolish enough to be taken in.

Student accommodation seems to be a real worry for families at the moment, it just isn’t there this year and with the leaving cert results out on September 3rd one wonders what is going to happen. It’s a pity like in other countries that student accommodation isn’t kept on campus for 1st. years anyway so that they can find their feet.

School bus tickets are another major problem moreover this year as they are being given out free to pupils due to Covid and thousands more applications have been made from families who previously were taken to school by car. It remains to be seen what the outcome will be.

A visitor to this area the other day commented on what an ideal place it was to live in – ATHEA. So near the major towns of Newcastlewest and Abbeyfeale, the beautiful scenic areas of Killarney and the beaches of Beale and Ballybunion, Ballyheigue and Banna. We are blessed really and of course Tralee and Limerick are on our doorstep too so if we think about it we are so lucky.

Well I was at Fossett’s Circus yesterday with my grandchildren and it was a great experience having not been at a circus for years. I would fully recommend  it  to young and not so young. Live entertainment is a great thing.

A mass in memory of Gortagleanna Martyrs, Paddy Walsh, Patrick Dalton and Jerry Lyons’ also Jack Sheehan and Michael Galvin will be held in Knockanure Church on this evening 23rd August at 7.30. Con Dee who was wounded in Gortagleanna will also be remembered. Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Timmy Dowling, grand nephew of Paddy Walsh.
