The death has taken place of Michael Lynch, 8, Court Villas Rathkeale and late of Coolcappa, peacefully at University Hospital, Limerick on Friday, July 8. Reposing at Magner’s Funeral Home, Rathkeale on Monday, July 11. His Requiem Mass was celebrated in St Kyran’s Church, Coolcappa on Tuesday at 12 noon followed by burial in Clonagh Cemetery, Reens, Ardagh. Sympathy is extended to his wife Jackie, sons Daniel, Reggie, daughter Megan, grandsons Kian, Rory, brothers Pat, Christy, Joe, Denny, John, Kevin Gerry, sisters Catherine, Mary, nephews, nieces, extended family members, and friends. May he rest in Peace.
Fleadh Cheoil Na Mumhan 2022 took place in Newcastle West from Sunday, July 10 to Saturday, July 16. The weather was very favourable for people to enjoy the outdoors and a lovely atmosphere was present. It was a great week of entertainment and well done to all the people involved in its successful staging. Congratulations to all the local successful competitors, who progress to the All Ireland in Mullingar from July 31 to August 8.
St Kieran’s lost to Monaleen by 3-10 to 3-9 in the opening match of the Under 19 County Premier Football Championship in Monaleen on Monday, July 11. St Kieran’s led by 2-5 to 2-3 at half time and remained in front until late scores from the city side piped them by one point. Ballybrown defeated St. Kieran’s by 1-17 to 1-7 in the County Under 15 Division 2 B Hurling Championship played in Ballybrown on Sunday July 10. Cormac Downey made an appearance on Up for the Match on RTE last Saturday night. Marty Morrissey RTE made a visit to the club last week.
The County Junior A Hurling Championship is due to commence for St Kieran’s against Askeaton on Friday, July 29 in the Bog Garden, Rathkeale. They are in Group 3, with Feenagh/Kilmeedy, Mungret /St Pauls, Ballybrown and Doon. The top two teams from the four groups will progress to the quarter finals.
Fermanagh defeated Limerick by 7-9 to 3-12 in the All-Ireland Ladies Junior Football Championship semi final played in Kiltoom, Roscommon on Sunday, July 10. The Old Mill players on the team were Sophie Hennessy, Róisín Ambrose (Captain), Iris Kennelly 1-3, Cathy Ambrose was a panel member. Former club player Alva Neary Quaid was full back and is now a member of the Saint Ailbe’s club. Róisín featured on the Lidl display boards promoting ladies’ football during the season. Marty Morrissey RTE visited the Old Mill club and made a big impression with young members and adults last week.
St Kieran’s Under 10/U12 camogie girls hosted Croagh/Kilfinny in Ardagh on Friday evening last. They performed very well as they continue to progress since their formation a short few months ago. They are enjoying the experience and well done to the players and mentors involved.

The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery draw took place on Monday, July 11. The numbers drawn were 5, 11, 15, 30, and there was no winner of the €8,500 Jackpot. Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who received €40 each: Darragh Breen, Belgium (Online), Jason O’Donovan, Ardagh, Noel Broderick, Coolanoran (Online), Denis O’Sullivan, c/o Nora Dineen, John Doyle, Carrigkerry (Online). Limerick GAA, in association with Adams of Glin, Peugeot Dealer, have launched a new fundraising drive with an electric Peugeot e-2008 Allure up for grabs. Tickets are currently on sale online at www.winapeugeot.ie at €20 each. The deadline is midnight August 26, and the winner will be announced on Friday September 2. All the proceeds from the draw will be reinvested in county hurling and football teams representing Limerick from minor grade up to senior grade.
