Sympathy is extended to Fr. Tim Curtin, Parish Priest, Coolcappa/Kilcolman, on the death of his sister, Carmel O’Brien, Mallow/Rockchapel /Youghal, Co. Cork at Marymount Hospice on Thursday. June 30. Reposing took place in O’Keeffe’s Funeral Home, Bowling Green, Mallow on Sunday, July 3, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Her Requiem Mass was celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, Western Road, Cork on Monday, July 4 at 11am followed by burial in St Oliver’s Cemetery, Model Farm Road. Sympathy also to her husband Finbarr, (Barry) children Fiona, Úna, Darragh, sisters Mary, Traoine, brothers D.J. Frank and extended family members. May she rest in Peace.

Limerick City and County Council proposes to construct ten housing units in O’Connor Park, Reerasta North, Ardagh. The proposed works will include the construction of ten number housing units in addition to ancillary site works  comprising of a new vehicular junction (with the R521), an access road, services, footpaths, parking, boundary treatment and landscaping works. The plans and particulars of the proposed development  will be available for inspection up to Friday, July 22, at their Newcastle West and Dooradoyle  offices, and online at http://mypoint.limerick,ie.

St Kieran’s defeated Caherconlish by 2-23 to 3-14 in Round 1 Group 4 of the Under 19 B Hurling Championship at Caherconlish on Tuesday, June 28. TEAM: Nathan Cahill, Darragh McMahon, Shay Greaney, Killian Heffernan, Conor Kelly, Liam Scanlon, Cathal McEnery, Fionn Gleeson, Cormac Mann, James Normoyle, Mikey Long,  Conor Woulfe, Cian Brennan, Sean Ryan, Conor Shanahan. Subs Tom McMahon, Cathal O’Connor.  They received a walkover from Pallasgreen in Round 2 due to be played on Friday, July 1 in Coolcappa.

St Kieran’s defeated Belville Gaels by 2-10 to 1-0-5 in the Under 17 Football at Coolcappa on Wednesday, June 29. St Kieran’s defeated Kildimo/Pallaskenry by 2-12 to 2-9 in Round 1 of  Group 2 of the Limerick Senior Football Championship  at the Bog Garden, Rathkeale on Thursday, June 30. They trailed for most of the match and were behind by 1-7 to 0-6 at half time. Dylan Moloney and Seamus Mangan had second half goals and Ian Mackessy saved a penalty as they eased ahead in the closing minutes to make a winning start by a three-point margin. St Kieran’s hosted an Under 10 and Under 12 Camogie mini blitz with Patrickswell and Kildimo/Pallaskenry at Coolcappa on Thursday, June 30. The fledging  club are progressing  and well done to all involved with the club.

John Hayes was a member of the Broadford United team that defeated Newcastle  West Town 5-1 in the Desmond Premier Division League Cup Final played at Hanley Park, Askeaton on Friday, June 24. Ray Brouder was captain of the defeated team.

The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery draw took place on Monday, June 27. The numbers drawn were 10, 12, 23, 25 and  there was  no  winner of the €8,300 Jackpot. Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who received €40 each:  Michael Curley, Reens, JMP c/o Josie, Brendan Mulcahy, Reens (Online), Breda Hayes, Creeves, Paul Moriarty, Liskileen, (Online). Next Monday night’s jackpot will  be €8,400. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated.

Congratulations to Bridget O’Brien Feenagh  who won €330, in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday, July 1. The tickets cost €2, or 3 for €5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloney’s  Carrigkerry, and Denis Greaney’s Shop Ardagh) or from the radio station. The next  rambling house will be held at Ballyhahill  Parish Hall  on Wednesday, June 6, at 8pm.  All musicians, singers’ dancers and storytellers are most welcome to attend. It is a very popular venue with good crowds attending and having a very enjoyable night’s entertainment. Refreshments are served and all are welcome.

Ardagh and District Fundraising Society presents a Mock Wedding Party on Saturday,  July 9 at Rathkeale House Hotel commencing at 5pm. The dinner will be served at 6.30pm sharp and an auction and a raffle will be held during the night. Live music by Different Sounds and DJ Sean Carrig. The admission is by ticket only and they are available to purchase at Neary’s Bar, Ardagh, costing €25 each. Cemetery Masses will be celebrated  on this Sunday, July 10, as follows:  Kilbradern Cemetery at 12 noon, Kilcolman Cemetery, at 2pm, Mount Pleasant Graveyard Mass at 2.30pm.

The annual collection for the maintenance of Kilcolman cemetery will be taken up on Sunday, July 10, before the cemetery Mass at 2pm. It is a well maintained cemetery and all support will be appreciated.

Fleadh Cheoil Na Mumhan 2022 will be held in Newcastle West from Sunday, July 10 to Saturday, July 16. Best wishes to all the local competitors who will be taking part in the various age groups in music, song and dance. A very interesting programme of events will be held including the Garry McMahon Mass at 6.30pm, and the official opening and session at Longcourt House Hotel on Sunday, July 10. A historical walk around the town commencing at 1pm from the Desmond Castle and a storytelling  evening with Francis Kennedy at 9pm at Cleary’s Bar on Monday, July 11. Louise Mulcahy lecture on master piper Liam O’Floinn at 1pm in the Red Door, whistling workshop with Anita Bennis at 8pm, and a singing session with Con Warren at 9pm in the Silver Dollar on Tuesday July 12. The dancing competitions will be held on Wednesday and Thursday  from 12 noon at the Longcourt Hotel. The weekend events will be included in next week’s notes.
