U13 Football League:

We travelled to Ballingarry on Thursday last on a lovely summer’s evening to take on Granagh Ballingarry: We played against the wind in the first half and played the best 20min of football we have all year with all players working hard for each other and full of energy. The score at halftime was Athea 0:3 to GB 0:1 We started the second half as we finished the first dominating possession but kicked 3 wides. GB then found their rhythm and tookover around the middle third and scored 2:2 in 10minutes leaving Athea trailing by 6points with 5min left. Athea had their 3 subs on and were struggling to get a foothold in the game however after a wonder point from Mark Collins who ran the full length of the pitch we followed up with a goal from Aaron Broderick, Tadgh Hunt hit the crossbar with Daniel Broderick scoring a point from the rebound and Mark Collins finished the scoring with a point after fielding the kick-out, leaving the match all square at the end 2:3 to 1:6. Athea had great performances from all the panel and showed great character to earn a draw in the end:

Panel: Tom Mullane, Paddy O’Connor, Jack Leahy, Tony Ambrose, Daniel Leahy, Jamie Quinn, Jamie Brosnan, Mark Collins, Daniel Broderick, Tadhg Hunt, Daniel Hunt, Conor Fennelly, Mark Ahern, Aaron Broderick, Patrick Healy, Conor Leach, Cathal Fitzgerald, Eoin Kenrick

U11 Football League:

We travelled to Newcastlewest on Tuesday evening last to play the next round of the u11 league. We were missing a few regulars but still managed to field two 9-a-side teams. We played 50mins of football on the night playing 4 different NCW teams. Both our teams played excellently demonstrating very high skill levels throughout the evening.

Pitch Development

Over the last two months the club has invested in the maintenance of the main pitch to keep it to a high standard. Starting with worm treatment earlier in the year we applied fertiliser to take us into May when we carried out sanding and hollow tining. We have since sprayed weed killer and applied further fertiliser.
The pitch should now start to show strong grass and will need regular cutting.
We have invested €6000 this year carrying out the above works.
Hopefully the money is well spent and will stand to us this winter. You can support this work by supporting our club draw below.
