PROLOGUE: “Do all the good you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” – from Wesleyan Chapel plaque in Church Street. Tarbert – 1830.

DEATH: We offer our sincere sympathy to the family of the late Mattie Kelly, St. Ita’s Sheltered Houses, Convent St. who has died.  A native of Rylane who went to England in the early 1950’s Mattie retired to live in Abbeyfeale in 2006 and took over the maintenance of the Church yard and the yard of the disused Convent building and for the following 14 years until Mattie’s health deteriorated he kept the place spotless. He was a great community man and is sadly missed.  May he rest in peace.

LIVE MUSIC AT THE GLÓRACH:  After tentative success in our two Autumn concerts, we’re really looking forward to this upcoming gig at the Glórach Theatre.  Acclaimed Buttevant musician Alan Finn of Shandrum Céilí band fame, and who has played for former US President Barack Obama, will be making the journey to Abbeyfeale next month.  He will be joined on the night by a stellar group of musicians that includes Keelan McGrath, Seán Kelliher and singer Annmarie O’Riordan.  The gig takes place at 8 pm on Saturday, February 19th.  Tickets are selling fast and can be bought at Abbey Tiles at an Siopa Milseáin, or by ringing 0871383940.  We will be also selling some tickets at the drive-in Bingo next Sunday.

GLÓRACH BINGO:  PRO Lorcan Curtin reports : “A great turnout once again, although the weather of the previous Sunday’s wasn’t replicated, with a cold, misty rain blowing in from the west.  The tea at the interval for the volunteers was most welcome and invoked memories of the late, great Con Houlihan’s description of tea in the bog.  Look forward to seeing ye at the GAA grounds next Sunday, February 6th, with the usual starting time of 1.30 pm”.
