Carrigkerry Playground Committee held a fundraising draw at Moore’s Bar, Carrigkerry on Friday, December 3. It was a very successful venture and they raised €5,411.50. The death has taken place of Geraldine (Ger) McMahon (née Frawley) Stoneville, Rathkeale, suddenly at her home. Reposing took place  at Magner’s Funeral Home, Rathkeale on Thursday, December 9, from 5.30-7p.m. Arriving at St Kyran’s Church, Coolcappa on Friday for Requiem Mass at 12.30pm. Cremation took place on Saturday, December 11, at Shannon Crematorium at 2pm. Sympathy to her husband Andy, brother Anthony, sisters, Angela and Helen, Godchildren, auntie Patsy, nephews, nieces, extended family and a wide circle of beloved friends. May she rest in peace.

The final Limerick GAA Club draw was held on Saturday, December 11, during the Limerick Live Sports Show from 10-11am. Congratulations to John Dineen from the Saint Kieran’s club who won €100. The draw for 2022, will resume in March.

Congratulations to Ciara Brouder, Ardagh and a past pupil of Desmond College, Newcastle West who received 613 points in her Leaving Cert exams. As a result,  she received an Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship to the BA in Education Gaeilge and Business Studies. The Scholarship valued at €2,000 was awarded on the basis of her high level CAO points obtained in the exams. She is wished well in her studies and future career.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions the annual tradition of hunting the wren St. Stephen’s Day unfortunately will have to be curtailed for the second year in a row. However, the good news is the Carrigkerry Wrenboy Group, weather permitting, instead of their usual house to house visits have decided to perform outdoors at various locations on St. Stephen’s Day. Their opening performance will take place in Carrigkerry at 11.00 a.m. sharp, followed by Knockdown at approximately 12 noon. Kilcolman 1.00 p.m. Creeves Cross 2.15 p.m. Ardagh at 3.15 p.m. with a final performance in The Square, Newcastle West at approximately 4.15 p.m.  Hopefully the weather will be favourable, and people will get the opportunity to visit one of these locations.

Kilcolman Rovers defeated Creeves Celtic 2-0 in the Desmond Ladies Division 1 League Cup final played at Mick Hanley Park, Askeaton on Sunday, December 5. Gillian Musgrave and Erin Hennessy scored the goals. Their captain Sophie Hennessy received the cup from Chairperson Joan Croke  afterwards. Jessie Meade, Kilcolman Rovers, was a member of the Desmond Under 13 Gaynor cup team that defeated MGL North Dublin 4-2 in the semi final of the competition played at the Oscar Traynor Centre in Dublin, on Saturday, December 4. It is the first time reaching the final  for the Desmond League, where they will play MGL South Dublin.

The annual Coolcappa Hall Christmas Raffle for fantastic prizes is taking place at present.  The proceeds will go towards the upkeep and running costs of the hall. The tickets are available in local outlets, and the draw will be held on Sunday, December 19.

A clothes collection in aid of Kilcolman National School is ongoing at present. Bags can be dropped in over the wall near the shelter to the right of the school. The collection date is Friday, December 17, and all support is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all who supported the Shoebox appeal for the Hope Foundation. A total of 123 shoeboxes  were collected at the school.

The Irish Rambling House tour of Britain did not take place last year or this year due to the pandemic.  The group have been entertaining the exiles in Britain for over 20 years, and it has been disappointing for both the group members and their audiences abroad. People can still enjoy their songs, music, dances, stories and the great craic, by purchasing one or more of their DVDs which would make a lovely Christmas present. The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery draw took place on Monday, December 6.  The numbers drawn were 2, 7, 15 and 27, and there was  no  winner of the €5,600 Jackpot.  Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who received  €40 each: Sean Moriarty, c/o Denis Greaney, Deirdre Ambrose, (Online), Rosarie Collins, Ardagh, Helen Hough, (Online), Helen Byrnes, c/o Denis Greaney. Congratulations to Aiden Nichol , who won €325 in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday, December 10. The tickets cost €2, or 3 for €5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloney’s Carrigkerry, and Denis Greaney’s Shop Ardagh) or from the radio station. All support will be appreciated. A number of exciting new programmes are  being broadcast at present with more on the way.
