Halloween is over with all its ghouls and goblins and decorations taken down by those who put them up. So soon we will see the Christmas decorations and lights in most houses. Hayes’s house on the Kerry Hill, Shanagolden was lit up on Sunday night last. They always put on a great display. With Christmas less than two months away shopping fever is in full swing. I’m sure I say this every year but I’ll say it again. Please try to shop local. I know online shopping is so easy for all of us but there are so many local businesses in the area that one need go no farther and it will be good for the local economy.
Since I retired from my library job in Glin I am not as much in touch with the goings-on there but I do believe that the Glin Development have more great plans for the Knights Walk. A new platform has been erected at the top and there are plans to plant Oak trees along the route. A good friend to all of us, Patsy McSweeney, has done very creative work making a broken down tree into a beautiful Fairy House. I’m not sure how many people from Athea do the Knights Walk but it is a lovely walk, especially on a fine day when one can view all along the estuary.
The Abha Bhán Players are busy reading and rehearsing “The Buds of Ballybunion”. It is good to be back together again after the Covid 19 hiatus. Let’s hope that the high figures will not put a stop to our gallop again.
It’s nice to see some more people returning to weekend church ceremonies. It gives a feeling of what life used to be. Whatever one’s belief it is always good to meet the other members of our parish, giving us all a sense of belonging.
