THANKS: Moyvane Development Association would like to thank all those people who came out and contributed to the community atmosphere for the festivities which took place on Sunday 24th October as part of the Village festival. The Vintage Tractor and Car Run was a great success with 40 tractors and 20 cars taking part. It was a lovely to see people out and about enjoying themselves on a beautiful day. Sunday also saw a very welcome return of the hugely popular Festival Fun Dog Show very generously sponsored by Betty and Jim Halpin of ‘Aughrim Mountain View Pet Hotel’. Categories included the ‘waggiest tail’, ‘best costume’ and ‘cutest puppy’. Thanks also to Betty & Jim for judging on the day, no easy job. While rosettes were presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in eight categories, the winner of the overall cup on the day was ‘Teddy’ owned by Sean and Deborah Mahoney. The Kiddies Tractor Run also took place on Sunday in the Church Car Park and great fun was enjoyed by all. All participants received medals for their efforts. The Fun Run/Walk scheduled for BH Monday was postponed and a new date will be announced soon. The Hunt was rescheduled to last Sunday October 31st. MDA would like to thank Fr Brendan and the Community Sports Hall Committee who kindly allowed us to use the two carparks on the day. Thanks to all who contributed to the bucket collection for local development activities and the Fuschia Dementia Centre in Listowel. WORKSHOP: Moyvane & Knockanure Community Planning Survey and Workshop are holding the 2nd Community Development workshop on Tuesday 16th November at 8pm (sharp) in the Community Sports Hall. The workshop setting is very social, relaxed and is mostly about sharing ideas. There is no need to be worried about getting a job! These workshops are about building for our future in Moyvane & Knockanure so please come along and get involved. Any ideas are warmly welcomed. We are also encouraging as many as possible to complete a survey regarding future development which we have shared to different groups within the locality. WASTE: European Week for Waste Reduction. European Week for Waste Reduction is the biggest campaign to raise awareness about waste prevention in Europe. This year, it will take place from 21 to 29 November. The 12th EWWR will focus on “invisible waste”, the large amount of waste generated during the manufacturing process.
METHANE: Minister McConalogue says that a reduction in the average age of slaughter from 27 months to 24 months would result in a one-eighth (12.5%) reduction in biogenic methane emissions. Comment, reducing age of slaughter, means feeding more imported cereals to speed up fattening.

BRIGHT SPARKS: Rethink Ireland and Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, are seeking bright sparks from around the country to lead rural Ireland’s recovery as we emerge from Covid-19. Google.org provided a $500,000 (430,000 EUR) grant to Rethink Ireland to establish the €600,000 Rural Recovery Fund, which is also supported by the Government of Ireland via the Dormant Accounts Fund. BOOK: Looking Ahead with Hope’ is a collection of short pieces written by Eddie Gilmore over a three-year period in the course of his work as CEO for the London-based Irish Chaplaincy. The book is a weaving together of visits to such places as prisons, care homes and monasteries with travels further afield: pilgrimage on the Camino in Spain, walking retreats in the French Alps, and meetings and events in Ireland.
The author finds joy and meaning whilst playing guitar to a large gathering of people in an Alpine cave, or to a group of Travellers in a prison; but equally whilst sitting on a bench at the bottom of the garden drinking a cup of tea and watching the sunset, and in the many small and hidden moments of encounter or discovery. NORTH KERRY As regards the question of employment it must be stated that, as a whole, there is no lack in the rural district of the Listowel Union—a fact which may he attributed to the large number of the young men of the country who joined the army since the outbreak of the war and went to Great Britain to work in the munitions factories; but there is no doubt, what-ever, there is a keenly felt want of employment in Listowel town, both for labourers and artisans, more particularly those connected with the building trades. Equally so there is no doubt that there is a great pressure on those classes owing to the enormous Increase in the prices of food. Milk, which was sold In the summer months at 8d per gallon, has, since the first of September, been raised to Is per gallon, an increase which will be very greatly felt by the poorer members of the community, while butter, at Is 6d wholesale, and Is 8d retail, is altogether beyond their purchasing powers. Another thing that operates against householders in the town is the rate, which is generally about twice as high as in the rural district. Then, in making a comparison between pre-war and present day prices, we have it that butter is nearly twice what it was: meat from 50 to 80 per cent dearer, for instance, American bacon, which in pre-war times sold at 6d and 7d per lb, is now purchasable at Is and 1s Id per lb., while beef and mutton are but very sparsely used by the general run of the community. ———————————-

Labourers with large young families are the only-class strained to unite ends, as others are enabled to send their children from the ages of 10 or 12 into service to the famers, and so assist their parent.–, to tide over the periods of unemployment usually December, January and February. Servants who contract with farmers for 9 or 10 months’ service usually receive from 6s. to 8s. 6d. weekly, together with, board and lodgings.

Ms Walinga said that among her roles as a CHV is training pregnant women and new mothers on nurturing care for early childhood development.
She said the main objective of the nurturing care project is to ensure children in the county survive, thrive, and develop to their maximum potential when they are between zero and three years.
“We teach them how to communicate with their babies when they are still in the womb and also how to talk and play with them after birth for the first three years. This is important for brain development,” she said.

‘Clear Danger’
John Klink, who was a Holy See negotiator at the Environmental Summit in Rio in 1992 and played a key role in the Church’s pro-life battles at other major U.N. discussions in the 1990s, told the Register Oct. 25 he sees a “clear danger” that billions of dollars committed to the Green Climate Fund — a U.N. body aimed at financing developing nations to adapt to, and counter, climate change — “will be funneled to abortion providers.”
He also pointed out that the U.N. Population Fund (UNFPA) is linking programs to reduce the impact of climate change on Africa with universal access to abortion and contraception under the guise of “reproductive health.”
The U.N. agency says its aim is to build “climate resilience” — “the latest nomenclature to be used by an ever-voracious UNFPA and its pro-abortion allies to access international governmental and U.N. swill,” Klink said.
Stefano Gennarini, vice president for legal studies at the Center for Family and Human Rights (C-Fam), an organization lobbying the U.N. on pro-life issues, noted “a resurgence of population control internationally in recent years,” including after the 2015 Paris Agreement. “Many Catholics, especially those who work on the development and climate policy, remain unaware or not sufficiently concerned about this,” he told the Register. “It would be helpful if the Holy See were to often repeat Pope Francis’ concern with population control in Laudato Si.”
The Holy Father warned in his 2015 environment encyclical against “blaming population growth” for environmental damage “instead of extreme and selective consumerism on the part of some,” saying it is “one way of refusing to face the issues.”
