WHAT A GREAT DAY

One would not have anticipated the huge crowd and the great BUZZ that was around our little village on Sunday last for the Vintage Rally. I went in before 12 mid-day and even at that time the church car park was filling up with children and their parents and grandparents. What a selection of vehicles they all had, from bikes to trikes, from cars to scooters, with some little tots barely tipping the ground with their legs. The Fire-Brigade along with Minnie and Mickey Mouse led the race down the street much to the delight of all the kids and onlookers.

The fine warm day was a great asset of course.  The smell of CURRY wafted through the air from the chip wagon as we waited for the Tractors which were next to take off. Some were Vintage gleaming and glistening others were so new and modern you were looking up at them – a sight to behold so many. The last to take off from the upper church car park were the Vintage Cars again all shiny and polished up for the day.

In all ATHEA was Alive and Buzzing until late into the evening. Well done to all involved in making it such a memorable and enjoyable day for young and old.

Sincere congrats to Anne and Tom O’Keeffe of Upper Athea who celebrated their GOLDEN JUBILEE— 50  Years of wedded bliss on Sunday last, along with their family relatives and friends. Here’s to many more years of health and happiness to them both.

This Sunday is a Big Day for Megan Carroll, daughter of Margaret and Tommy,  as she plays for IRELAND in Tag-Rugby in U.L. Wishing her all the very best .Athea should be proud of her.

This Bank Holiday Monday sees the Athea U-15s play their final in Mick Neville Park against Ballylanders with a kick off at 11.30 am. These are a young and up-coming team and we wish them all the best.

Hasn’t our weather been unreal again this past week. Long may it last and can you believe it Christmas is only 9 weeks away this weekend. We won’t think about Old Time yet.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:-
