The parish mass times are changing from the weekend of October 16/17. Mass will be celebrated in St Molua’s Church, Ardagh on Saturday evenings at 6.30pm and in Saint Mary’s Church, Carrigkerry on Sunday mornings at 11am.

Congratulations to all students from the four local schools who recently  received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Thanks to all involved in the background to make it possible.

The Rosary will be recited nightly  at 7pm, during the month of October at Churchtown Grotto Newcastle West. It will be recited each evening during October at the Shrine Rathkeale at 6.30pm.

The death took place of Geraldine Liston, Nee Nolan, Glenastar, Ardagh, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday October 7. Predeceased by her parents William and Moira, brothers Tom, Noel and Liam. She lay in repose at her residence for family, relatives, neighbours and close friends on Friday from 6pm. Her remains arrived at St Molua’s Church Ardagh for 11.30am Mass on Saturday October 9. Geraldine was laid to rest in Ardagh Cemetery. Sympathy to her husband Billy, sons Patrick and Liam, sisters Marina (Moyvane), Irene (Ballinagare, Roscommon), Ann Myers (Taghmaconnell, Ballinasloe) and Laura (Shanagolden) and extended family members. May she rest in Peace.

The death took place of John Young, Smithfield, Croagh and late of Pallaskenry peacefully on October 3, at his daughter Majella’s residence, aged 86, predeceased by his wife Kit. Reposing at his daughter Sheila’s residence, Killaheen, Reens, Ardagh,  Tuesday October 5, from 4pm to 7pm, for family and close friends. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St John the Baptist Church, Croagh, at 11.30am Wednesday October 6, followed by  burial afterwards in Croagh Cemetery. Sympathy to daughters Majella and Sheila (Dillane), sons in law Tom and Brian, sister-in-law Joan, brother-in-law Ger, grandchildren Shane, Kathyann, Jimmy, Tommy, Charlie and their partners, niece Maria, cousin Margaret, extended family and friends. May his gentle soul rest in Peace.

Ardagh author Mary Kury’s new  book is titled “In loving memory”.  As the name suggests it is a survey of four graveyards: Clounagh, Coolcappa, Kilscannell and Rathronan and a review of Cillins/Killeens in the Parish.  Each graveyard survey has a map with an index and a list of all the monuments there. The book will be launched on Thursday October 14, at 7pm, at Cahermoyle House Ardagh and a further launch at Rathkeale Tourist Office/The Old Court House on Thursday October 28. Tea / Coffee and light refreshments will be served

Bridie Murphy from Glenastar, Ardagh will launch her first book ‘Connections’ at Carrigkerry Community Centre on Sunday October 17, at 7pm. Bridie is known far and wide for her photography and now this talented lady has used her time during Covid to compile a selection of her poems, articles and photographs in book form. Seamus O’Rourke, Leitrim,  author of Standing In Gaps  and many funny rural stories  heard on radio and TV will perform the launch. The numbers are limited due to hall capacity, but the book will be available from Bridie and many local shops after the launch. The proceeds from the book will go to Temple Street Children’s Hospital and the Irish Air Ambulance.

Saint Kieran’s defeated Killacolla Gaels 2-12 to 0-5 in the County Under 19 A Football semi final  at Mick Neville Park on Tuesday, October 5. They led by 2-7 to 0-3 at half time. TEAM Craig Mac Innes, Conor Kelly, Aaron Heffernan, Jamie O’Brien, Sean Ryan,  Dan Geraghty,  Shane Fitzgerald, Cormac Mann, Lorcan Murphy,  Tom McMahon, Jamie Baynham, Cathal McEnery, Shay Greaney, Jamie Keane, Conor Woulfe. Subs Killian Heffernan, Darragh  McMahon, Jamie Mulqueen,  Cian Brendan,  Robert Cremin. They play Croom in the final on Tuesday October 12.

Saint Kieran’s defeated Dromin/Athlacca/Banogue 1-13 to 0-6 in the County Under 15 Hurling Final at Mick Neville Park on Wednesday October 6. They led by 0-9 to 0-3 at half time and extended it through the second half to claim victory. Creeves Celtic drew 0-0 with Shannonside at home  in the Desmond Division 1 League Cup Group B  match on Sunday October 3. Carrig Celtic lost 6-0 at home to Newcastle West Town in the Premier Division League Cup Group B. In the ladies Division 1 League Cup Group A  Creeves Celtic defeated Breska Rovers B 7-2 away Dympna O’Brien 5, Maureen Noonan and Brigid Liston scored their goals. Jessie Meade Kilcolman Rovers was a member of  the Desmond Under 13 Gaynor Cup team that defeated the Kerry League 7-0 at Askeaton also on Sunday.

Saint Kieran’s GAA Club  commenced  their  walking programme on Friday, September 24. It is the same 4km route as last year  starting from the Astro turf car park at 7.30pm sharp each Friday. Everyone should wear a high Viz jacket and carry a flashlight as they proceed along the public road. For people who would like to do a shorter walk,  they can do  circuits of the Astro turf. Week three has passed and  it is a great way of getting out and enjoying the outdoors and all are welcome.

Kilcolman National School are holding a clothes collection on Friday, November 5. Accepted will be used clothes, shoes, handbags, belts, curtains etc. Items can be dropped to the shelter in the school  from Friday October 22. All support is greatly appreciated.

The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery draw took place on Monday, October 4.  The numbers drawn were 19, 24, 25 and 28, and there was  no  winner of the €4,700 Jackpot. Congratulations  to the five lucky dip winners who received  €40 each: Gary Byrnes c/o Denis Greaney, Helen Byrnes c/o Denis Greaney, Claire Greene, Newcastle West (Online), Johnny Nash c/o Hanley’s, Mairead Ellis, Ardagh (Online). Next Monday night’s Jackpot will  be €4,800. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated.

Creeves Celtic held their first monthly split the pot draw at the Thatch Newbridge on Saturday, October 2. Congratulations to Gavin Wilmott who was the lucky winner of €445.

Congratulations to Ronan Lynch, Ballaugh, who won €640 in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday October 10. The tickets cost €2, or 3 for €5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloney’s, Carrigkerry, and Denis Greaney’s Shop, Ardagh) or from the radio station.
