Our Club are deeply saddened upon hearing the news of the untimely passing of Oliver ‘Hopper’ McGrath RIP. Oliver is a former Club Secretary, Player and a through and through Athea GAA supporter. He was also heavily involved in organising the Athea Carnivals in the early days and always spoke fondly of the memories and fun times  had in organising these community occasions.

Sincere sympathies to his wife Mary, Son’s Donnchadh, Séan , Conor and daughter Eibhlín and extended family.

Junior A Men’s
Athea 4-15  Croom 1-11

After receiving a walkover from Ballybrown a week ago we made the journey to Feenagh on Thursday last where we met Croom in Round 3 of the Premier Junior A Championship. The evening was warm and the pitch was in great order which seemed to suit us. With goals from Jonathan Fitzgerald and two from James Ryan as well as a penalty scored by Kevin Murphy in the second half, we were never in trouble in this game. Kieran Hartnett was in great form and saved a penalty in the first half as well as making some fine saves throughout.

The overall team performance was excellent and sets us up nicely for the Quarter finals in three weeks time.

Team: K. Hartnett, TJ Doherty, T. Quaid, J. Collins, S. Mulvihill, D. Griffin, J. O’Connor, J. Fitzgerald (1:00), Mark Reidy (0:03, 3F), J. Kelly (0:03),  S. Ryan (0:03), D. Murphy, B. O’Connor, J. Ryan (2:02), K. Murphy (1:03, 1Pen, 2F)
