I know this column is called Knockdown News but the truth is that there is very little news from Knockdown. Since Covid 19 came into our lives all things have changed and it will take a while before life returns to what we knew. It won’t return as life is evolving into something different but it will go on. Killeaney AFC grounds is very quiet but the Knockdown Arms is beginning to hum again. Thankfully the shop is thriving and is a great asset to the area.
Sympathies to Noel Guiry and family on the death of his mother Mary Guiry, Finnoe, at the weekend. I remember Mary as being a lovely gentle lady going into Mass every Sunday in Ballyhahill. May she rest in peace.
It is hard to believe that it is almost Back to School time and already I hear the grandchildren getting excited about new uniforms and books and meeting up with the their friends again. And of course there will be a new principal since Mary Moore retired just before the summer. Great times ahead for these little ones.
Best of luck to Sarah Prendeville as she and her friends head back to Dubai to work for another year. Counting the days to Christmas already!
Meanwhile thanks to prayers and determination Jim Prendeville is trying to get on his feet again and is managing to take some steps with a bit of help. He is slow to get started on doing his speech and physio exercises but when he gets going he does well so we continue to hope. He thinks I am a slavedriver but I am doing my best to get him moving and speaking. Can we do it? YES, WE CAN!
