The past week has been a very busy week for our club with many teams togging out in the Maroon and White for their first competitive games of 2021. 100 spectators are now allowed to attend matches as spectators, so whether at home or away, we encourage you all to come out and show your support for our teams who proudly represent us.

U12 Girls

Our girls gave a great account of themselves against Fr. Casey’s two teams on Tuesday last. These girls have made huge progress and seem to get better with each game they play. Well done

U16 Girls
The U16’s started their campaign in Cappagh on Monday evening, where  they came up against a strong experienced side in a high scoring game.

Junior Ladies

Athea 0-13 Galtee Gaels 2-05

Our girls travelled to the other side of the county to play Galtee Gaels on a beautiful Sunday evening. Despite leading at the break 10 pts to no score this was far from a one sided affair. With the aid of a strong breeze and a big panel, Galtee Gaels fought back. Heart and determination got Athea over the line. Up next is Adare at home on Sunday 27th at 7pm.

U14 Boys

Athea 5-7 Knockainey 1-6

Our gallant young team had a great win in the  delayed 2020 13 aside county semi-final in Mick Neville park last Saturday. The game was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests, as we had to work very hard all through the game. The big difference between the teams was that we took our goal chances and they missed theirs. We now look forward to the County final v Kildimo/Pallaskenry, probably this Saturday. Keep an eye on our social media pages for updates.

Team: Tomás Ahern, Seán Twomey, Tadhg Ahern, Ciarán Hunt, Calum Buckley, Jamie Collins, James Hunt, Evan Curry, Jack Sexton, Rory Cleary, Louis O’Sullivan, Alex Quinn, Timmy O’Keeffe, subs, Jim Ahern, Fionn Histon and Jamie Quinn.

Junior A Mens

Athea 3-08 Abbeyfeale B 0-08

Our Junior A men’s team won their first game of 2021 with a well deserved win against our near neighbours. The team were due to play Cappagh on June 15th, but Athea will now receive a walkover. Athea are due to play Glin on June 22nd in Glin at 7.30pm.

Junior B Men’s

Athea 1-12 Mountcollins 1-04

The Junior B Men’s Team played Mountcollins on Wednesday last in Mountcollins. There was a good display of football, with Athea leading at all times during the game. Athea were due to play Feenagh/Kilmeedy on June 16th, but this game has now been postponed.

ATHEA GOLF SOCIETY

Congratulations to our team who played so well in the Andy O’Dea “Ryder Cup” competition final in Tipperary on Saturday last. Despite bringing in great scores, enough to win most competitions, we fell far short of the Bruree score which was away above the norm. One of their team brought in a score of 56 points playing off handicaps of 27. You just can’t compete with this and I blame the new handicapping system which is handing out false handicaps in some cases. I know it is new and it will take a year or two to iron out but in the meantime it is very unfair on middle and low handicappers. Anyway, well done to Bruree.

Our next outing is to Newcastle West on July 3rd. Places will be limited to 30 so oit is vital to get your name on the sheet before the meeting on the Monday before if you want to be included
