OUT AND ABOUT

Well last week I had entitled my few lines HERE COMES THE SUN. Maybe I spoke too soon and as I do my few lines tonight Monday maybe I should have said HERE COMES THE WIND AND RAIN. However the past few days were again lovely and having done the cnoceens walk up near the windmills yesterday and down by Joe Vaughan’s quarry near Clash, we didn’t anticipate the very strong wind and blustery conditions we are experiencing today.

It was a pity however en route to see the burning of all the heath and Bogland and so near owners forestry. It could have been a very dangerous situation as it was no doubt a lot of wildlife must have been wiped out and that’s very sad. Why do people do this?.

Another sad week here in Athea for families. The sudden passing of Patrick Dalton of Gortnagross and Knocknagorna came as a terrible shock to his family and to his neighbours and many friends. A quiet, unassuming man who loved the country life and his garden etc. Requiem mass on Saturday was followed by burial to Holy Cross Cemetery. We extend our sincere sympathy to his wife Mary, Daughter Marina, Son Joseph, mother Peggy, sister Marie and brother Liam and relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.

The death also took place during the week of Dick Woulfe of Gortnagross who had been ill for a while. Dick was well known for his Hackney service in years gone by. He was married to his good wife Peg for 62 years. Burial followed Requiem Mass on Monday to Holy Cross Cemetery. Sincere sympathy to his wife Peg, daughters Cathy, Eibhlish and son Tom and his many relatives and a large circle of friends. May the light of heaven be his.

Can you believe it I was just reading the other day that if you were an English person on holidays and were missing home you could now buy a bottle of FRESH AIR  to remind you of home. It’s only 25 pounds a bottle and you can choose from Fish and Chips or other English smells. I wonder what Irish people would like to have their air-smells made of. Maybe Bacon and Cabbage, the smell of Burning Turf, or maybe even Slurry. At 25 Euro or more a bottle of air I wonder would it be a good buy.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:-

Enjoy all you Have by Pursuing all you want.
