DONATE a calf; John McGrath a life that was cut short, in January 2020, he was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. A year later, on January 26, he passed away. Erin, alongside other members of John’s family and with the support of farmers around north Kerry, is organising a ‘Donate a calf’ fundraiser in cooperation with Listowel Mart on March 24. They are asking for farmers to donate a chosen calf/calves, with proceeds going to the Palliative Care Unit in UHK. The mart will be foregoing any charges for the calves sold. More details at

JOHN BARRY: This week John Barry, Knockanure brings to a close 30 years of dedicated service as grounds man in Knockanure Church. John always did a great job not only in the Church grounds but around the Parish. He reminded me that since he started all those years ago that twenty-eight parishioners, whom he used cut grass for have gone to their eternal reward. Ever cheerful and ever helpful, we wish John blessings and good health for the future.
PARENTS and FRIENDS Listowel Branch annual Cheltenham preview night is online Tuesday 9th March between 8pm and 10pm. Pat Healy and Billy Keane will host the event and will be joined on the panel by Michael Winters, Eric McNamara, Kevin Brouder and Berkie Browne. On the night we hope to have interviews from other famous names in Irish Racing. There will be charity bets kindly sponsored by Bar One Racing and Browne Bookmakers. This event will be streamed live by tuning into the Kerry Parents and Friends Association Facebook page. We have set up a Go Fund me Page for donations to their charity.
Kerry Parents and Friends Association was set up in 1973 to provide a community based service for adults with an intellectual disability in Kerry.

February is Black History Month—a time to reflect on Black history, culture, and heritage in the US. To celebrate, The Library of Congress has published a Flickr album of widely requested photos of Black activists; important figures like Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, or Malcolm X, who paved the way for generations to come. The collection includes 39 portraits of African American civil rights activists from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. All of the images have “no known restrictions,” meaning no copyright restrictions affect their use.

At least 25 Catholic Priests and 60 members of Religious Orders have succumbed to COVID-related complications in Tanzania, the Secretary General of the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) has said.
“In two months, more than 25 Priests and 60 Nuns, Catholic nurses and doctors have died of respiratory problems,” Fr. Charles Kitima told journalists in the East African nation Tuesday, February 2. Making reference to deaths recorded from mid-December to February, Fr. Kitima remarked, “This has never happened in a short span of time before.”
