DAY OF PRAYER FOR SURVIVORS OF ABUSE This year falls on Friday February 19th PRAYER OF ATONEMENT Lord, forgive us our many sins. We grieve and repent with all our hearts for having offended you, for our great failings and neglect of the young and vulnerable. We place all those who have been hurt by the Church in any way into your loving hands and under the protection of Our Blessed Mother. Lord, bring peace to their broken lives and show us all the way out of darkness and into the light of your Word. May we as the people of God be more fully human, more fully Christ-like and more fully your people, that we may see the errors of the past and go forward with renewed hope and faith in Christ and in our Church. Amen

LOCK DOWN rules, no more than 20 people are allowed to attend a funeral in Scotland in person.
WEATHER reports are ignored by most people, because of the hype, by the forecasters.
POOR me is regular cant of some, older generation, observe that they outlast all their cohabitants.
PEACE: One of Mattie J.T. Stepanek’s most popular (and needed) poems. Mattie wrote this poem on September 11, 2001 as an international passage for peace.
Life and career
Matthew Stepanek was born on July 17, 1990. Stepanek’s parents divorced when he was a child.[2] He was raised in Upper Marlboro, Maryland and later lived in Rockville, Maryland.[3] His hero was former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who described Stepanek as “the most extraordinary person whom I have ever known”.[3][4][5][6]
Stepanek suffered from a rare disorder, dysautonomic mitochondrial myopathy. His three older siblings died from the same illness. The condition was unknown until his mother was diagnosed with mitochondrial disease in 1992, after all four of the children had been born.[2]

INDIA: Farming employs more than 50% of India’s workforce, 85% of whom own fewer than five acres of land. New laws farmers say will leave them at the mercy of corporations by taking away the safety net of guaranteed prices for certain crops and leave them at greater risk of losing their land.
SUDAN: My appeal to you is, please don’t leave South Sudan alone.
Ask your parishes to give this Lent. Tell them our story. Give us that blessing. We need your prayers. We need your support. It’s my cry to you.
This partnership here with Trócaire and Cafod, it goes beyond partnership. It is joining, holding our hands together. Staff are always on the frontlines. They leave their good life to walk with us through these minefields of South Sudan.
It is faith in action. I know this because I am also the beneficiary of support from the Catholic Church through Trócaire & Cafod.
I am a priest because of it. Because of the books, the chalks, the pens. People from Trócaire supported me to go to school. Supported me to study. Supported me even to travel to Maynooth, where I did my courses. Maybe the Lord called them to give this support.
So Please, I beg you to help South Sudan. Please fill your Trtócaire Boxes This Lent.
Father James Oyet, South Sudan.
POOR: In 2020, World Vision’s U.S. programs reached more than 10.3 million people with resources and support ranging from cucumbers to showers. When COVID-19 hit Los Angeles hard, Hollywood Adventist Church, Adventist Health, Kohler Co., and World Vision formed a partnership to provide showers in the church parking lot — via the KOHLER Relief Showering Trailer — to people experiencing homelessness. As many as 200 people come through each week to use the seven showers, equipped with donated personal care items for people to take with them.
BUNTING: The Festival enjoyed its inaugural celebration in 2018. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength building upon a growing comprehensive roster of stellar, world class musicians, guest scholars, film makers, authors and distinguished guest speakers both local and international.
GREENWAY PIONEERS OPPOSE NAME CHANGE: The Great Southern Trail Ltd. (GST) voluntary group was formed about thirty years ago after Shannon Development had abandoned their visionary project designed to create Ireland’s first Greenway along 85km of the former Limerick to Tralee railway. Shannon Development bestowed the name ‘Great Southern Trail’ on the project to reflect the railway heritage. They engaged John Grimshaw of Bristol to survey the route and prepare a comprehensive study. www.johngrimshawassociates.com John’s report was visionary and is available on www.southerntrail.net.
CASH-for-Residency; Known officially as the Immigrant Investment Programme (IIP), it was launched in 2012, encouraging foreigners to invest in Ireland. The applicant must have net worth of €2 million and be able to invest half of that in one of a number of specified Irish industries or charities (where the requirement is less). Since it was set up, 21 US citizens have taken up the scheme and a smaller number from Vietnam, Saudi Arabia and other countries. But the champions are the Chinese, who account for over 1000 of the 1166 successful applicants. The scheme offers residency rights but not citizenship rights. https://tintean.org.au/2021/02/10/from-the-papers-21/

COVID Deaths; — One in 73 haredi Orthodox Jews in Israel over the age of 65 has died of COVID in the past year — more than four times the number in the same cohort of the general population — according to a new report. When observant Jews drink or eat, they recite a blessing that includes the name of God before and after. Jewish law, states that in order to say God’s name, people should have their heads covered.
AMANDA Gorman is, without question, an impressive young woman. She is the first Youth Poet Laureate of the United States, and has read her poetry for a wide variety of audiences, ranging from the Library of Congress to MTV. What makes her success even more incredible is that she used poetry to overcome a difficult array of disabilities: a speech impediment, auditory processing disorder, and hypersensitivity to sound. She has been open about her struggle to speak, and caused the nation to fall in love with her when she spoke at Joe Biden’s inauguration. But this brilliant young poet is also an ardent supporter of abortion, and a pro-abortion poem she shared in 2019 is going viral again.

“I’d feel like a quitter if I left the service now.”

This Valentine’s Day, the Still Picture Branch would like to share a photo story from the series 26-G. This series is the subject of one of our ongoing digitization projects and will soon be available to researchers everywhere through our online catalog. The photographs in 26-G come from the main historical file for the U.S. Coast Guard which heavily features photographs taken during WWII.
This photo story depicts the union of a couple in love – both serving their countries on active-duty. In the spring of 1945, Women’s Royal Navy Servicewoman Josephine Mary Kennelly, 19, married American Coast Guardsman Dominick Andriacci, 29, in Liverpool, England. Both bride and groom would return to their duty stations soon after their wedding. Dominick would go back to his Coast Guard ship, and Josephine back to her role with the Women’s Royal Navy Service.

Squinting at his enemy’s face through a sniper scope, Kappler sees the laughter on the priest’s face and becomes so agitated (Plummer’s twitching face wordlessly conveys his murderous rage) that he tremblingly starts to finger the trigger, white line or no white line. But Msgr. O’Flaherty, though he can’t clearly see his opponent’s expression at that distance, appears to sense (perhaps warned by the Holy Spirit or his guardian angel) that he may be overplaying his hand and walks away.
That penultimate confrontation is among the film’s most cinematic moments — but the final encounter, dramatically shot in the Colosseum, is the most significant. On the brink of surrendering Rome to the Allies, terrified for wife and children, Kappler turns in desperation to his hated enemy, forcing himself to appeal to the very Christian principles he despises in the hope that Msgr. O’Flaherty will use his underground railroad to spirit his family out of Italy.
The priest’s Irish temper gets the better of him in the moment, leaving the Nazi officer shouting after him in despair that his faith means nothing after all — but in prison Kappler discovers, to his wonder, that his family has indeed been saved. Closing titles inform us that Kappler was visited regularly in prison by Msgr. O’Flaherty himself, who ultimately baptized his former enemy into the Catholic Church.
