I want to sincerely congratulate fellow contributor, Kathleen Mullane and her husband Paddy who celebrated 50 years of marriage recently. I also include Domhnall and Noreen Barry who are celebrating this great achievement around this time. Wishing you all many more years together.

Congratulations to Shauna Long, Knockdown who recently got engaged to Kieran Caplice from Tipperary. Both are currently working in Dubai but will be home for Christmas.

Knockdown Vintage held the rescheduled raffle in aid of Symptomatic Breast Unit, U. H. L. outside the Killeaney Clubhouse in Knockdown last Saturday evening. Due to COVID this had been postponed since last Spring.

As most of you know by now my husband Jim got a bad stroke last week and has spent the week in Beaumont Hospital, critically ill. Due to all your thousands of prayers and lighting candles there is a very slight improvement this week so I await whatever the future has in store.

While working in Glin library I have many readers who say “That was a great book. I was nearly lonesome finishing it.”

Hence the following poem:

My New Book

I could not wait to finish

I turned each page with delight

Wondering how this book would end

As I read chapters every night.

And when it ended I was sad

I had grown to love it all

But now I’ll have to let it go

And let the memories fall.

And another book I start right now

And soon I know I’ll love

It just as much in a different way

Like a hand fits in new gloves.

This seems to be my life just now

Since life struck a nasty blow

But I’ll adapt and face the challenge

And I’ll succeed, I know.
