KNOCKANURE VALLEY BE ALERT GROUP: would like to thank Kerry County Council for the community support grant we received. This has enabled us to purchase 9 community alert signs to improve the safety of the local people. Due to COVID-19 no AGM will be held, all committee members are all staying on for another year. DEATH has taken place of Betty O’Carroll (nee Nolan) (of Killelton, Ballylongford) & (Late of Moyvane) on Monday October 19th 2020. Predeceased by her husband Mossie, Betty is deeply regretted by her daughters Joan Browne, (Ballybunion) and Liz (Tralee), son-in law Liam, grandchildren Katie, Eoin, Brendan and great-granddaughter Siábhra and sister-in-law Maureen Nolan. Requiem Mass for Betty was celebrated at St. Michael’s the Archangel Church, Ballylongford, followed by burial afterwards in Lislaughtin Abbey.

BEST WISHES to Kennelly’s Hardware is a family-run business established on the 23rd October 1978 by Mike Kennelly. After working in Dublin for 2 years, Mike returned to his local village of Moyvane where he opened a hardware business and began as a sole trader in a rented premises. In 1981, Mike purchased a new shop in the centre of the village. Nearly a decade later, the business expanded when he bought a site on the Glin Road and built a timber and materials yard. This gave further employment to the local community. In September 1994, the business became a limited company.
In 2002, the business moved to a larger premises where is it is still trading today. This is adjacent to the original shop of 1978 and over 40 years later, the family-run business continues to serve its customers from all over North Kerry and West Limerick.

Pope Francis said he is happy and grateful to God for the liberation of Father Pierluigi Maccalli, the Italian missionary priest who was kidnapped in Niger on 17 September 2018. Father Maccalli was released in Mali on 8 October 2020, after two years of imprisonment in the hands of jihadist militants together with three other hostages.
REUSE: October is Ireland’s National Reuse Month, reuse is about valuing our stuff, by using and reusing it for as long and as often as possible. This avoids the need to extract raw materials, manufacture and distribute new stuff, and avoids waste thereby cutting down on greenhouse gas emissions. POETRY; Keith Ó Riain graduated with a first class honours degree in Gaeilge and History from Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, he produce the first ever edition of the poetry of the eighteenth-century Cork poet, Éadbhard de Nógla, along with textual analysis of the poems and a study of his life and work. Keith has been announced as the global winner in the history category of the 2020 Global Undergraduate Awards, for his study of the ideas, values and beliefs of the Maigue-side district poets in the period c. 1730-1770.

BE WINTER READY from Marian: Keep warm, eat well and avoid unnecessary travel. You should eat regular hot meals and drink plenty of fluids, this will keep you warm and will give you energy to keep active. Ensure you have sufficient supplies of food and of any prescription medicine you may need. Keep active indoors. Have sufficient fuel supplies to maintain adequate heating in your home. Ask your relatives and neighbours for help if you need it. Keep their phone numbers on a list beside your phone. In icy weather, wear well-fitted shoes with non-slip soles if you have to go out but try to limit walking outside during the cold weather. Consider wearing a personal alarm so that family or neighbours are alerted if you fall. If you have a fall, even a minor one, make sure you visit your doctor for a check up. Leave a low energy light on at night time, preferably one with a high light output. Use a non-slip shower or bath mat. Make sure wires or cords from lamps, telephones etc. do not trail where you walk. Arrange furniture so that you can easily move around all your rooms. Remove rugs or use non-slip tape or backing so rugs will not slip, Consider installing hand rails on both sides of the stairs. (Also vitamin D for people indoors)
COVID 19; Pro footballers earning more in one week than some people get in 10 years get tested 3,4,5 times a week but a working class person, will have difficulty in getting a test. Time for the church create a group of volunteers, who will be willing to risk themselves in situations where the professionals are dodging the bullet. As more and more will live and die in abandoned situations.
TRALEE CHURCH: Monday Nov. 09th to Friday Nov. 13th we will have a Novena of Remembrance nightly at 7.30pm. This Novena will include a Liturgy of the Word with a Guest Speaker who will address some aspects of Grief & Loss followed by a litany & prayers for all our faithful departed at our Remembrance Tree. This will be followed by a solemn Expression of Grief through the medium of the creative arts – music, song, poetry & art etc. We will conclude with a Solemn Blessing. We are inviting people who have experienced loss/grief in their life to journey with us over these 5 evenings. The death occurred at the Presentation Convent, Killarney, of Sister Evangelist Kennedy, a native of Dingle. The deceased was 83 years of age, 57 of which she had spent in religion. After Requiem Mass the interment took place In the Convent Cemetery.

An impressive tribute was paid at the funeral of Rev. Brother M. J. Mc-Namara at the age of 58 years, whose death occurred at the Monastery, Kilkenny. The late Brother McNamara (a native of Faugheen, Carrick-on-Suir) entered the Congregation at 16. During his 42 years in religious life he taught In Dun Laoghaire, Mullingar, Waterpark College (Waterford), New Ross, and Omagh.
