U8s

U8s Hurlers played Newcastle West on Saturday morning last in Athea. The team played brilliantly, with the stick work improving every week. U8 footballers played a match last Thursday against St. Kierans. They played very good football in a good tough game for the team.

U16

The U16 boys footballers are at home to Blackrock on Monday night next Sept 21st at 6.15pm, with a place in the county semi-final up for grabs.

Men’s Minor

The Athea GAA Men’s Minor team played Kildimo/Pallaskenry on Friday last and came away deserving winners on a score line of 3-11 to 0-09. The boys got on top early on, and goals from Gearoid O’Sullivan, Daire O’Shea and TJ Hunt helped us to a 3-7 to 0-5 half time lead. We continued to dominate the start of the second half but faded in the last quarter. There were great displays from Colin Broderick, Thomas McEnery, Eoin O’Shea, Michael Tierney, T.J. Hunt, Daire O’Shea and Andrew O’Riordan, who kicked some super points. Team. Colin Broderick, Eoin Sheahan, Thomas McEnery, Luke Gleeson, Pauric Enright, Eoin O’Shea, Gavin Ambrose, Michael Tierney, Evan Wallace, T.J. Hunt, Aidan Curry, Gearoid O’Sullivan, Daire O’Shea, Andrew O’Riordan and Jack Hunt. Subs; James Lee and Rory O’Mahony. We wish a speedy recovery to Pierse O’Brien and Dermot Pierse who got injured in our last match. That makes it two wins from three for the boys which secures them a place in a quarter final. The next scheduled game is against Belview Gaels on September 20th at 12 noon in Templeglantine.

Junior A

All roads lead to Knockaderry on Saturday (we hope) when Athea take on Crecora/Manister in the Quarter Final. We are awaiting the announcement on Tuesday from the Government with regard to spectators. Please keep an eye on our social media pages for updates. As always, live updates will be posted to Athea GAA Twitter Feed. Best of luck to team and management.

Girls U8, U10 U12

Well done to our U8s and U10s who played Monagea and Gerald Griffins recently. Thanks to both clubs for their hospitality. The U12s Girls play Fr Casey’s in Abbeyfeale at 6.30pm on Friday 18th September.

Junior Ladies

Congratulations to our Junior Ladies team who have qualified for the Semi – Final against Galtee Gaels on Saturday September 26th at 3pm with Venue TBC. This team have produced some thrilling displays of football and teamwork in the season so far, and we have a feeling it may not be their last day out of the season. Best of luck to all with the preparations.

Sympathy

Our club would like to offer our sympathy to the Reidy family in Upper Athea on the passing of Miriam Masterson in Rathfarnham, Dublin. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
