What a beautiful day we have had this Sunday with many families making their way to nearby Ballybunion, Killarney and even nearer to Glin and Tarbert. We are so blessed to have such beautiful locations to visit all year round, so make the best of the nice weather as, we can see already the evenings are getting darker much earlier.

The death took place during the past week of Ita Shine of Dirreen, Athea. Ita was predeceased by her husband Donal. A really lovely, gentle woman who always had a smile on her face. Ita had a little playschool here in Athea many years ago when my own girls were young and they adored her. Ita passed away at her residence surrounded by her family, her Requiem Mass on Wednesday was followed by burial to Holy Cross Cemetery. Sincere sympathy to her daughters Joan and Mary Ita, sons Donie and John, relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.

Sincere sympathy to Timmy Reidy and family and Margaret and Paudie of Upper Athea on the death of Miriam Masterson in Dublin this past week following a long illness. May she rest in peace.

Well done to Athea minors who, on Friday evening, lined out here in Athea against Kildimo/Pallaskenry having an outstanding win of 3-11 to 0-9.

Well next week should have been a busy week for Listowel, the annual races starting next Sunday, however enthusiasts will have to be content with watching them on TV. Please God this time next year we will be in a better position and be able to enjoy the excitement of the Harvest Festival.

Sincere sympathy to Joannie McGurk (nee White) on the death of her husband Malachy in America. Brother in law of Billy and Brownie White, Colbert Street, Athea and Betty, Ned and Tom in England and Margaret in the USA. Sympathy to her daughters, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.

Thought for the week:- If you are not big enough to lose, you are not big enough to win.
