SCOIL CHORP CHRÍOST FIRST HOLY COMMUNION:  The parents of the 2020 Scoil Chorp Chríost First Holy Communion class, have approached Fr. Kevin and the principal Mrs. Donegan, seeking approval for the forthcoming Holy Communion ceremony to take place in the Church of Assumption, Moyvane, in order to fully comply with social distancing guidelines and to allow siblings to attend. Fr. Kevin and Mrs Donegan have kindly agreed that this is a more suitable arrangement in these difficult times. The First Holy Communion will take place on Saturday the 12th of September at 11.30am in the Church of Assumption, Moyvane.

MURHUR N.S. FIRST HOLY COMMUNION:  This celebration will take place on Saturday 22nd August at  1pm in the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane.  Both schools are actively communicating with parents regarding safe numbers for both celebrations.

CEMETERY MASSES:  As you are aware our Cemetery Masses have been cancelled for this year.  However, as this coming week, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday would have been the dates for these celebrations can I suggest the following:  Monday 3rd Ahavoher Cemetery – all who have loved ones buried in this Cemetery would light a candle at home and pray the Angelus either at 12 noon or at 6pm.  In the same way on Tuesday for those buried in Knockanure Cemetery and on Wednesday for those buried in Murhur.  If these times are not suitable choose your own time but please honour it with prayer and if possible, a lighted candle in honour of the good men and women who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith. We pray that this year in particular they will pray for us in the presence of the Risen Lord that we will continue to be safe and well during these anxious times. May they Rest In Peace.  A prayerful visit to either of our Churches would honour them in an extra special way. Moyvane Church open from 10am to 5pm daily and Knockanure Church open from 11am to 3pm daily.

RADIO: Horizons at 9 on Radio Kerry on 9 Aug-A Higher Power – Addiction. Local Stories of Addiction and how faith helped cope.

FLOWERS are in full bloom along many road margins, pity the main roads are cut before the flower.

Dead head roses, as they prevent a second bloom. Hanging baskets in the village of Athea are looking great.

TOILETS: Now that most of the usual toilets are not accessible, it prevents many from going places, elderly men frequently need toilets. Surely the council could provide some basic urinals. Drinking water should also be provided, for people to fill their bottles.

HOME Schooling should also be practised this year for those who are capable of doing the job and it would relieve the schools and taxpayers of making provisions, which may to be discarded next year, it would be also good for the environment.

ROAD works costing E600.000 are to be carried out in the district according to recent reports, no breakdown on the cost of the actual roadwork. Many are complaining about the view at junctions being impaired by shrubbery.

WALK: On the Saturday supplement of the Irish independent ‘travel addict’ Pol O’Conghaile included The Knights Walk in Glin among the 25 Best Family Friendly Walks in Ireland. A 4km. walk that takes you through Glin Demesne, through the Rook Hall Wood and the Furry Hill Wood, rising up to ‘super views’ from Tullyglass Hill. Suitable for all ages the walk takes about 1.5 hours. The Knights Walk is just one of three walks included in The Glin Walking Heritage Trails. The Path and The Knockaranna walks take you along the Estuary with some beautiful scenery and a wide variety of flora and fauna.

VITAMIN D: Overall, obese older adults had much higher rates of vitamin D deficiency both in winter and summer (Figures 6-7). During winter, rates of vitamin D deficiency in the obese were 27.3% for those aged 55+ and 35.3% for those aged 70+ compared to 20.8% and 27.0% respectively for those not obese.
