Well August is with us at last, and despite being in lock down since March, the time has flown by! And now with schools re-opening in the next few weeks under strange conditions it will be a difficult time for everyone. And I just see in the latest news flash this Sunday morning that Limerick has the highest number of Covid cases in the country, a frightening statistic so we must not let our guard down and be vigilant at all times wear our masks, wash our hands and keep our distance.
The death took place during the week of one of our oldest parishioners Nellie Ahern of Dirreen, who was in her mid 90s. She was a real gentle lady, caring, religious, always with a smile on her face who loved bingo, trips to Lourdes and Fatima and family. Requiem mass on Saturday was streamed live on the new Webcam system. Parishioners lined the route to Murhur cemetery where burial took place. Sincere sympathy is extended to her many relatives and friends who no doubt will miss her a lot. May she rest in peace.
Birthday wishes are extended to David O’Connor of Coole who celebrated his 50th birthday along with his family during the week. All had a very enjoyable time.
Confirmation dates are august 15th, 22nd and 29th,with Communion on September 5th.
The new speaker and Webcam system which has been installed in our church and which allows christenings, funerals, weddings and masses to be streamed live to all parts of the world is just brilliant and isn’t technology wonderful at these times. The system has cost a lot of money and will cost 2,000 euro a year to run after installation. If anyone at home or abroad would like to give a donation no matter how small, it would be a great help as church finances are down due to Covid. You can do so by donating to Fr. Duggan, or I can pass on to him if anyone overseas or locally wishes to contribute.
Envelopes are available at church doors for Carol, our sacristan’s collection, which is on August 15th. Carol has done untold work during the Covid and deserves recognition.
