We were delighted to welcome Padraig Cronin from the Hen Harrier Project to our Riverwalk recently. Padraig was very impressed with the progress made and has requested us to host a ministerial visit in the near future to showcase the walk and the important awareness raising initiative of Athea – the hen harrier capital of Ireland. A permanent arch has been ordered for the walk and should be completed in the next few weeks. Three benches will also be installed at the site. Two of these benches are sponsored by local families and the final bench will be erected in memory of Bridie O’Shea who helped so many people in the community during her time living in Athea – with much of this work being done unnoticed.

Our application to the Town & Village Renewal Project is now complete. We should know in the next few weeks if we were successful. Fingers crossed.

We hope to be in a position to advertise a fundraising initiative beginning in September – more details to follow.

Great to see work continuing at Athea Creamery – congratulations and best of luck to the new business established here – ‘ The Lab’. Looking forward to welcoming you to our community.

Heritage Leaflets & Kids Activity Books will be made available soon.

Some of our members visited the wonderful Glasha Lake for a guided tour by Pat & Bernie Higgins. What a wonderful amenity and asset to Athea and an absolute haven for wildlife. Well done to Pat & Bernie and family for all the work they have put in here over the last 25 years. Such potential!
