Hoping to get a hard copy into the shops next week so, contributors please have your articles with us by Monday at the latest. The office at Athea Community Council is open in the mornings so notices may be left in there as well. Don’t know what way it will go but we will give it a try for a couple of weeks and see what happens, however, if there are not sufficient copies sold we may have to abandon again. Could you please use your contacts to spread the word.
We are very near to having the pubs open, though not as soon as expected, and I’m afraid it is time to start worrying again, Since the opening of restaurants and bars that serve food, the number of new Covid 19 cases continues to increase by the day. We are lucky that we are living where we are and that people in Athea have played a big role in keeping the virus at bay. It only takes one case, however, to start a new wave and, if Killarney and Ballybunion are anything to go by, visitors are gathering in large crowds with no observance of social distancing. Some of these visitors have come from abroad, especially from the US where there is a real problem with the spread of the virus. A big mistake was made in the early days when rugby fans from Northern Italy, where the virus was rampant, were allowed into the country. Are we going down the same road now by allowing plane loads to arrive form America? I have no doubt that the people of Athea will act in a responsible manner if the pubs open but Athea is not an island so we need to be on our guard. I must admit I am looking forward to a pint with a creamy head on it and a bit of banter with the other patrons but I will have no hesitation in reporting any flouting of the rules. our lives are at stake.
I meet a lot of people when playing golf and when I tell them I am from Athea they always have good things to say about it. They comment on how well it is looking and how busy the place is so, take a bow members of the Tidy Towns and Athea Community Council. Your efforts are not going unnoticed.
The Miracle Prayer
Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked many favours, this time I ask you for this special one (mention favour). Take it dear heart of Jesus and place it within your heart where your Father sees it. Then in his merciful eyes it will become your own favour not mine. Amen.
Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never been known to fail.
Must promise publication of prayer.
