DROUGHT conditions continue, dykes are dry, except where there is a good spring. Apple trees and berries are showing good signs,, plums, are very poor. Elders are in full bloom at present. I have noticed at least two bushes, showing signs of dieback. Despite all the fine weather up to now, saving is poor at present.

MIXED messages about the future of distancing, causing confusion, people are allowed to do what they like soon, ignoring all the sacrifices that have been made to bring us to the present position. Big crowds lined the streets as Nora was brought to the church door by her son Jim. Fr. Tony Mullins was on hand to greet her and sang “Limerick you’re a Lady” for her. Presentations were made with music and songs which lasted for about one hour.
Nora was in great form and even managed a verse of “Knockanure”. A film crew from RTE were on hand to record the event which will be aired on the news sometime over the weekend (info will be on the Athea tidy Towns Facebook page).

The Day invites you to become aware of how precious water is. Use this wonderful prayer when you visit a well. Prayer for the Protection of Water.
O God of all creation, teach us how to protect water on which all living beings depend, plants, animals, fish, birds, humans Help us to ensure that water may always flow freely and purely for all your Creation. A Prayer for Fathers
Almighty God, you have taught us that you are the Father of us all, And that all fatherhood takes its origin from you.
You protect us from evil
And provide our daily bread.
You are strength and integrity, blessing and the font of life.
We thank you, then, for our fathers.
Though human, they are also a reflection of you, Lord God.
They are your gift to us.
We pray for all fathers today.
May they realize the greatness of their vocation
And have the strength to live it without fear.
Forgive their sins, and keep their eyes raised up to you
To those who still make this earthly journey with us,
Give us the grace to love them as we should;
And to those whom you have called from this life,
Give a special place of honour in the heavenly kingdom
With you, the Father of all.
We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
