Athea GAA

Athea 3-15 Newcastle West 1-7

The  U14s had their first game of the year on Sunday morning last on our brilliant Athea pitch v NCW. The foundation for this win was laid in the first half, with a masterclass defensive display against a very strong wind. We trailed at half time 1-7 to 0-6, but went on to dominate the second half to win comfortably. From Jim Ahern at corner back to Michael Kelly at corner forward, the whole team gave a fantastic display. Our first competitive outing is the Féile Peil blitz on Saturday, March 28th, in a group with St. Kerans and Rathkeale/Cappagh.

Team: Tomás Ahern, Jim Ahern, Tadhg Ahern, Jack Sexton, Sean Twomey, Calum Buckley, Jamie Collins, Evan Curry, James Hunt, Alex Quinn, Rory Cleary, Louis O’Sullivan, Timmy O’Keeffe and Michael Kelly.

The first outing for the Junior A team was postponed on Saturday last due to the weather warnings in place. The next scheduled match against Pallasgreen in the County League will take place in Athea on this Saturday, March 7th at 3pm. All support greatly appreciated.

Repair work was carried out on the Ball Stop Nets on Thursday last continuing our commitment to ensure our grounds are maintained to a high standard. Thanks to everyone who supports our work!
