Athea GAA
U13 academy
Three players from the club attended the West Limerick U13 football academy on Friday last in Mick Neville Park, best of luck to Louis O’Sullivan, Jack Sexton and Timmy O’Keeffe.
Work is now complete on the new Athea GAA Club Force registration website. The site will go live once final checks are complete. This online registration will be used to register all individuals within all units of the Club – Men’s, Ladies and Coiste na nÓg. Further details to follow next week.
Athea will play their first match against Glin in the County Football League on this Saturday, February 29th at 3pm in Athea. Other teams within our division include Mountcollins, Pallasgreen, Bruff, Fr. Caseys, Mungret St. Pauls and Ballylanders. Would be great to see a good crowd from Athea making the journey to support the boys on their first day out of the year!
The Limerick Ladies Football Team played Offaly on Sunday last in Athea earning a well-deserved draw on a score line of Limerick 2-9 Offaly 1-12. Continued success to the team, especially to Athea Ladies Club members Rebekah Daly, Rachael Greaney and Claire Carmody who are part of the 2020 Limerick Ladies Football panel.
Following our call out for sponsors for sets of jerseys for our Men’s Minor Team and Ladies Underage team, we were delighted to secure two generous sponsors; Diarmuid & Áine at O’Riordan’s Pharmacy and Ciaran Barrett of Athea Painting and Decoration (based in Dublin). We are delighted that you have both chosen to be associated with Athea GAA and we look forward to wearing your sponsored jersey with pride for the coming season.
A meeting of the events committee took place on Tuesday last at the Library. Plans are now at an advanced stage for the Good Friday midnight walk – ‘Spring into Easter’ – Athea’s Midnight Multicoloured Walk. For this walk, we will be encouraging everyone to dress in brightly coloured clothing and walk with us from the hall to the GAA Club, complete 5 laps and return to the hall afterwards. Each lap of the field will have its own theme including a Silent Lap. The wonderfully talented Athea Craft Group will lead the parade with specially made Lanterns for the occasion. Our walking track at the GAA will also be transformed into a multicoloured walkway! Funds raised from the event will be divided between Athea GAA Club and the Athea Lourdes Fund. Watch this space for updates!
