22 people returned for the second development meeting with Donal Fitzgibbon on Wednesday, February 5th. All the sub-groups formed at the first meeting returned to show their work so far. All groups have been extremely busy setting goals and forming plans to achieve these.

John Hunt spoke on behalf of the ‘Coaching’ sub-committee and outlined plans, including having a minimum of four coaches per team, providing extra games outside the county organised fixtures and forming an integrated coaching plan. Neilus Hunt presented the findings of the group tasked with ‘played retention, Senior club involvement and holistic development of players’. Plans to tackle drop out of players through the age groups were discussed, among other things.

Denise O’Riordan spoke to the group about plans from the Social Committee. Lots of possible future fun activities were discussed including a mid-night Multi Coloured walk on Good Friday, Hobby Horse Stick Racing during the summer and Afternoon Tea at the Library. Also a Mock Wedding as a large scale fundraiser in early 2021.

Finally, Mary Hunt spoke on ideas being developed to integrate the clubs under the GAA banner. The Coiste Na nÓg, Ladies GAA, community games and the Senior club are making plans to help all the clubs to work together.

Donal then invited Seamus Twomey (Limerick Munster Council Delegate and former Development Officer)  and Alan Sheeran (Croom GAA Secretary) to give their thoughts on the progress so far. The task now is to put the final pieces of these plans together and to formulate the overall ‘3 Year Development Plan’ in two months’ time.

Athea GAA are currently working with ‘Club Force’ to develop an online registration system for the Club. This will make registration an easier and safer process for all going forward. It is hoped that this online registration system will go live in the coming weeks.
