The month’s mind mass for the late Johnny Kennelly, late of Glensharrold who died on Wednesday, October 30, will be celebrated in Saint Mary’s Church, Carrigkerry on Friday December 13 at 7-30pm.

The sudden death of Jaroslaw ( Jarek)Chromy from Jarorzno, Poland and Ardagh, on Tuesday December 3, was a major shock to his family and the wider community.  He and his brother bought Connell’s Pub at the Top Cross in recent years. It was tastefully renovated and shared by both. Families. Jaroslaw, who was only aged 42, was self-employed at Jaroslaw Chromy “Veles” Art. Jaroslaw painted many pictures of the Ardagh Chalice, and last year he was a spearman in the Last Druid play. He and his fellow countrymen  had a stall at the recent Saint Kieran’s Heritage Association Craft Fair in Ardagh Hall, and they were also Viking Re-enactors called Ulfhednar Hird  at the launch of the DVD.

Removal from Reidy’s Funeral Home Newcastle West on Saturday last December 7, to Shannon Crematorium. A guard of honour was held by members from the St Kieran’s Heritage Association. Prayers were recited in St  Molua’s Church, Ardagh, following the 6.30 mass on Saturday evening and people had a chance to sympathise with the family. A celebration of his life will be held in Ardagh School field on Saturday, December 14 at 3pm, and all are welcome. Sympathy is extended to all  his family. May he rest in Peace.

We extend our sympathy to Donie and Bernie Enright and family Park on the death of Donie’s sister Nora late of Park, and New York, who died on Monday, December 2. Burial will take place in New York. May she rest in Peace.

A Christmas party night hosted by Let’s Fight Cancer Midwest, will be held in the Ballintemple Inn Newcastle West on Saturday, December 14 at 7pm. Complimentary wine followed by a two-course dinner with tea or coffee. Music by DJ Jeremiah Roche, and the tickets cost €45, and all enquiries to Joan O’Sullivan on 085-2529030. It is in aid of Milford Hospice, and the Midwestern Cancer Foundation, and all support will be greatly appreciated.

Saint Kieran’s GAA Club are holding a monster Christmas draw and tickets are currently on sale from local outlets and from members. Tickets cost €2 each and a book of three cost €5. First Prize €300, Second Prize €150, Third Prize Christmas Hamper, Fourth Prize €100 worth of Driving Lessons, Fifth Prize Meat Voucher, plus many more prizes. The draw will be held in Ardagh Hall on Sunday, December 22, at 9pm, and all support will be appreciated.

The Longcourt House Hotel, Newcastle West was the venue for the Kathy Casey Byrne Memorial Concert Cheque presentation on Saturday, November 30. The proceeds from the concert held in Saint Molua’s Church Ardagh on Friday, October 4, was presented to two local charities by the organisers, and the Casey family. The cheques amounting to €5,150 each were accepted by Kathleen Osborne on behalf of the Mid-Western  Cancer Foundation, and Lucy Masterson on behalf of the Irish Youth Foundation. The late Kathy from Ardagh and teaching in Scoil an Linbh Iosa Prosperous, Co, Kildare,  was involved with youth, training children for tennis, basketball and camogie. The DVD of the concert is currently on sale and would make a lovely present for a friend this Christmas. It can be got at Greaney’s, Neary’s, and Ailish’s in Ardagh for € 15.

Last month, The Irish Times, in association with Travel Department, invited aspiring writers to compose a travel story about a trip they have taken in Ireland or abroad – one that involved an adventure of one kind or another – in 500 words or less. Out of more than 520 entries, Siobhan Healy’s story was selected as the winner. She will receive a holiday for two people in Tenerife next April, courtesy of Travel Department. Siobhan is a native of Newcastle West, but now resides in Glensharrold. Her story can be read and enjoyed on the Irish Times website.

Carrig Celtic defeated Newport Town 3-2 at home   in the 5th Round of the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday, December 1. Seanie King, Noel Callanan, and an own goal, made up the scores, as they advanced to the last 32. Creeves Celtic, and Carrig Celtic B had no fixtures. In Division 1 of the Desmond Ladies League Creeves Celtic drew 2-2 away to Rathkeale with goals from Sandra Larkin, and Lyndsey  Curtin. Kilcolman Rovers defeated Askeaton 7-1 away with Gillian Musgrave 6, and Aoife Kinehan, scoring the goals.

Congratulations to  Moss O’Connor, and Bobby Woulfe, who were first prize winners at the card game held in Monagea Hall on Wednesday, November 25. Congratulations to Mike Young and Mike O’Mahony who were prize winners at the Flag Floor card game held on Wednesday November 27.

The last Druid DVD which was launched at the Saint Kieran’s Heritage Association  Craft Fair is now on sale at Neary’s, Gerard O’Connor’s  Moloney’s and  Hanley’s in Creeves. It contains scenes from  the Last Druid play, Vikings in the village, Irelands strongest man Pa O’Dwyer in action,  and John Hough’s walk to Ardagh Fort. It costs €12 and it would make a lovely Christmas present. Sympathy to the family of the late Jaroslow  (Jarek) Chromy Ardagh who participated in the events of the St Kieran’s Heritage Association in recent years.

West Limerick 102 community radio are holding a fundraising grand variety concert at the Longcourt House Hotel on Wednesday, December 11 at 8pm. It will feature the best of Limerick talent and all support will be greatly appreciated. The entertainers appearing include Philip Enright, Abbeyfeale, Con Warren, Monagea, Broderick sisters, Abbeyfeale, Abby Butler, Newcastle West, Tom O’Donoghue and Glenside Céilí band members, Christy Lynch, Shanagolden group, Comhaltas Group, Christy Kelly, Kilmeedy, Tom Moore,  storyteller, Treasa Buckley, Mikey Mac, Donna  Finn, and many more. Tickets cost €15, and it promises to be another great night’s entertainment.

Bingo in aid of Ardagh Community Centre  will be held there on Wednesday December 18, at 8-30pm sharp, and the prize money is €3,000. A raffle will be held for valuable prizes, and donations of spot prizes will be gratefully appreciated. 

Congratulations to Helen Murphy, Abbeyfeale who won €234 in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday December 6.
