The death has taken place of Johnny Kennelly, Glensharrold, Carrigkerry, suddenly at his residence on Wednesday, October 30. He was a member of the farming community and a founding member of the Glensharrold Wren Group. He lay in repose at Kieran Madigan’s Funeral Home, Askeaton on Friday, November 1, followed by removal to St Mary’s Church Carrigkerry. His Requiem Mass was concelebrated on Saturday at 12 noon by Fr Tom Mangan, Fr Michael Noonan, and Fr Tim Curtin, and family and friends participated in the readings, prayers of the faithful, offertory gifts, reflection and tribute. He was laid to rest in Ardagh Cemetery beside his late mother Maggie on Saturday, November 2, and the Glensharrold Wren group and friends gave him a musical send off in the local hall. We extend our sympathy to his brother Tom, sister-in-law Nora, brother -in-law Hugh, nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces, great grandnephews, great grand nieces, cousins, kind neighbours and many friends. May he rest in Peace.
The death has taken place of Patrick (Paddy) Moran, Cooltomin, Askeaton, on Thursday, October 31, peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. Reposing at his home on Sunday, November 3 from 3-6pm. Funeral arrived at St Kyran’s Church, Coolcappa for Requiem Mass at 11.00am on Monday, November 4. Burial took place afterwards in Kilbradren cemetery . We extend our sympathy to his loving wife Mary, sons Michael and Vincent, daughters Suzanne (Bradley) and Mary, grandchildren, sisters Joan and Breda, nephews, nieces, cousins, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, brothers-in-law, neighbours and friends. May he rest in Peace.

St Kieran’s Heritage Association held their monthly meeting in Ardagh Community Centre on Thursday, November 7, and 16 people were present. Chairperson JP O’Sullivan welcomed all, and Mary Byrnes read the minutes, and matters arising were addressed. The items up for discussion included Craft Fair, Ardagh Station House, Cahermoyle House, Quiz, Series of Talks, Night Out and 2020 events. The Craft Fair will be held on Sunday, November 24 from 1-30 to 4-30pm, in Ardagh Community Centre, and to date 17 stands with lots of variety will display their products. The Ardagh Montessori School will put on a display from 2-2.30pm, and traditional entertainment is being sourced also. A raffle for numerous prizes will also be held during the afternoon.
The Association will hold a night out in Rathkeale House Hotel on Friday, November 29, with further details to follow. The ongoing work at Ardagh Station House was discussed with concern raised by members as to what the outcome will be and in what state the building will be in when completed. A series of further local talks will be held from January to March. A couple of Pub Quizzes will also be held. The Association will be involved in the 50th Anniversary celebration of the opening of St Kyran’s Church, Coolcappa which occurs on Sunday June 28, 2020. A meeting to finalise details for the craft fair will be held on Thursday, November 21 at 8pm in Ardagh Community Centre.
Congratulations to owners and staff of Con Brouder Fitted Kitchens, Glin, who were recently awarded the coveted Business All-Star Accreditation. It is an independently verified standard mark for businesses based on rigorous selection criteria; performance, trust and customer centricity. The formal presentation ceremony took place in Croke Park Friday on October 25th. Con is a native of Kilcolman, and for the past 30 plus years, he has provided jobs for so many people around the locality. He has been very generous with sponsorship as well as during his time as owner of Brouder’s Bar in Glensharrold. Continued good wishes to the business in the future.
The Limerick Community Games AGM was held recently in the Woodlands Hotel Adare, and their chairperson Anthony Fitzsimons from Ballyneety Shanagolden stepped down after many years in that role. Anthony has been involved with St Senan’s community games for over 40 years and held positions at Munster and national level. Happy retirement to Anthony who will remain on the board as Honorary President. Eleanor Fitzsimons remains on the board as National delegate.
Saint Kieran’s and Mungret /St Paul’s drew 2-12 each in Group 1 of the County Premier U-21 Football Championship at Ballingarry on Saturday, November 2. They led by 2-9 to 1-5 at half-time but needed a late point to salvage a draw. Congratulations to Darren Dineen from Ardagh who was a member of the Munster Wheelchair hurling team that won the All Ireland on Sunday, October 27, at Abbottstown Complex in Dublin. They defeated Ulster by 4-2 to 0-0 in the semi final, and Leinster by 2-3 to 2-0 in the final.
The DVD of the Kathy Casey Byrne Memorial concert is now on sale in Ardagh at Neary’s Bar, Greaney’s Butchers and Ailish’s Hair Saloon.
On each Sunday of November the Rosary will be recited at Reilig Mhuire Cemetery, Askeaton at 3pm, and all are invited to attend. The annual November Rosary will be recited each Sunday of the month in the three cemeteries in Newcastle West as follows: Famine Cemetery 3pm, Calvary Cemetery 3.20pm, and Churchtown Cemetery 3.40pm, and all are welcome.
Prayers will be recited at 11am in Kilbradern Cemetery on Sunday, November 17.
Zumba classes continue in Coolcappa Community Hall on Thursday nights at 8pm. The charge is €7 per class, and it is a most enjoyable evening, and all are welcome.
Old Mill ladies football club are holding a Table Quiz in Neary’s Bar, Ardagh on Friday, November 15. All support appreciated.
Eddie Carey, in association with WL 102 Radio, will be appearing at Longcourt House Hotel, Newcastle West on Friday, November 15. He will launch his new CD and will be joined on the night by several other well-known entertainers, including Marian Kirby, Kerry Dave, Two Mikes, William Reidy, and Donal Buston. Admission is €15 and it will be dancing only, and not a sit-down concert.
Carrigkerry National School opened in September 1979, and to mark the anniversary a Mass will be held in St Mary’s Church, Carrigkerry on Sunday, November 17 at 11am. After Mass all are welcome to call to the school for refreshments. The school are very grateful for funding of €1,350 from the Hen Harrier Project Local Grants Scheme. This scheme is funded by the Department of Agriculture, and other state agencies.
The St Ita’s Community Hospital Remembrance Mass for deceased residents deceased staff and their relatives will be held in the Hospital Chapel on Sunday, November 17, at 2.30pm. Family members and friends are welcome to attend.
A Gala Fashion Show will be held in the Longcourt Hotel Newcastle West in memory of Mary Cremins on Friday, November 22. Prosecco on arrival with a Christmas Market from 6.30pm, and Fashion Show from 7.30, and a luxury prize raffle also. All proceeds to the Children’s Grief Centre, and Milford Hospice. Tournafulla Development Association will hold a fundraising bingo afternoon in Halla Tadhg Gaelach, Tournafulla on Sunday, November 24 at 3pm sharp, with €2,000 in prize money. A double book and one sheet will cost €15, and a single book and one sheet will cost €13, and half books are available at €5. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
Congratulations to Ciss Collins, Broadford who won €260 in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday, November 8.Tickets cost €2 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, or from the radio station. All support is very much appreciated. New volunteers to get involved in all aspects of the station are needed at present.
