Progress Update:

The walkway lights are being installed this week and next week and hopefully will then be switched on. They will be a huge benefit to walkers, joggers etc, during the darker evenings and so safe on the track – no traffic.

U-21s:

Our U-21s lined out against a strong Clann na Gael in Templeglantine on Sunday evening last. Considering many of our U-21 team are young players who have another 3 years or more playing U-21 they didn’t do bad. Final score (4-11) – (0-11)

U13 FOOTBALL COUNTY FINAL

We still have no date finalised for our upcoming County Final v Monagea. This final brings back memories of two epic U16 finals we played against Monagea 28 years ago, in 1991. In the west limerick final that year, we lost after extra time, and unfortunately we also lost the County final which was played as curtain raiser to the West Limerick Junior football final replay, between Athea and Rathkeale in Newcastle West, which was watched by a crowd of over 1000 supporters. While we lost those under 16 games, many of those young players went on to achieve great success in the maroon and white of Athea, including among others, Benny Collins (RIP). Declan White, Sean Ahern, Neilus Hunt, Philip Woulfe, Denis Collins, Micky Hayes and Brian Ahern.

SCHOOL FOOTBALL

The N.S. football team are playing the final of the west limerick primary schools 9 aside competition on this Thursday in Mick Neville Park at 11.30 in Mick Neville Park. They will be looking to Jack Sexton, Sean Twomey, Peter Coolahan, Jamie Collins, Louis O Sullivan, Jim Ahern, Alex Quinn and Tomás Ahern etc for inspiration.

HURLING

We had our final Hurling coaching last Sunday morning in fabulous sunshine. The various age groups went through their drills and matches, with great skills picked up during the year on display. We went to the Con Colbert hall afterwards for some well earned treats. Well done to all the parents, coaches and committee members for giving the children of the area the opportunity to learn the skills, of the great game that is hurling. Roll on 2020.
