Congratulations and best wishes for a happy future to Paudie Cummane, Knockdown, who got married to Magaly Carillo in Istanbul last Friday. Paudie likes to travel the world and decided that Istanbul was as good a place as any to get married to his sweetheart from Peru.

It was a busy weekend in the parish. A huge crowd took part in the Mothers & Others quiz in Knockdown on Friday night. Twenty teams vied for the top prize of 4 rugby tickets and Johnny’s Angels (Johnny Lyons and team) were the lucky – and brainy – ones. Mothers & Others, who had put in a lot of background work, are very grateful to everybody who supported them.

The Trad night in Barr na Sráide was well enjoyed also. It was an “Up for the Match” Gerald Griffin style as everybody looked forward to the big match on Sunday which, as you all know now, ended in a draw and will be played again on Sunday 27th in the Gaelic Grounds. Well done to Glenbawn man, Paul Brouder, whose goal towards the end of the game ensured the draw. Tough luck on Brian Long who got a broken collar bone in the early stages of the game. We wish him a speedy recovery.

We had a lovely Harvest thanksgiving Mass on Saturday evening in Ballyhahill with gifts of cheese, fresh vegetables, eggs, honey, fruit, hay, straw and turf being presented as gifts. All of the gifts were harvested in the parish. The Mass was also offered up in memory of all the past and present members of Gerald Griffins GAA club.

For anyone who loves their dog and wants to know how best to care for these pets there will be an opportunity to learn in Glin Library on Tuesday next October 22nd at 12 noon when a dog lover will come to speak to all interested. All welcome. No fee.

A Rambling House session is being held in Ballyhahill Hall on this Friday October 18th. €5 admission. Tea provided. All singers, dancers, musicians and listeners are welcome. It is unfortunate that it is the same night as the opening of the Gary McMahon festival and one can’t be in two places at once so big decisions have to be made. Proceeds from this event go towards the Lip Sync night in the Devon Inn on November 9th. Mark your calendar. Sponsorship cards are also doing the rounds. Please support as much as you can.

The Going Strong group will have a further 6 weeks of Aqua Aerobics in Askeaton  starting on Monday 14th October at 2.15 pm. Anyone can join. All welcome.
