Congratulations to Bernie and Seán Prendeville on the birth of their first child Seán Óg recently. This is my 10th grandchild. Two more are on the way before the year is out please God.
The Flu Vaccine clinic will be held in Foynes on Tuesday 8th October from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm. It will be in Glin on Tuesday 15th October from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm. No appointments necessary. All staff will be on duty so no delays envisaged.
Gerald Griffin’s Lip Sync is gearing up for a great night on November 9th. In preparation for this there are various events organised as follows:
Mothers and Others are organising a quiz in Knockdown on October 11th at 9 pm. €40 per table. Raffle and spot prizes on the night.
A Rambling House session is being held in Ballyhahill Hall on Friday October 18th. €5 admission. All singers, dancers and musicians are welcome. Proceeds from these events go towards the expenses for Lip Sync night. Sponsorship cards are also doing the rounds.
A Harvest Mass will be celebrated in Loughill this coming Sunday and in Ballyhahill on Saturday 12th. The purpose is to give thanks for all that nature gives us at this time of year.
It looks like there will be no Coursing in Glin this year due to the disease in rabbits and hares. We were always used to the Coursing in Glin and it seems strange not to have it. I know attitudes are changing towards the sport but one of my friends, who is a coursing enthusiast, guarantees me that no hare is hurt during the event and all of them are well cared for and set free again at the end.
It is hard to believe that it is time once again to submit articles for the Athea Journal. The years are flying around. I am glad that Domhnall and Lillian are continuing the tradition and look forward to it.
