“Wedding bells” were in abundance over the past couple of days for some of our parishioners. On Saturday last, here in Athea Church, Stephanie Barrett was married to Cillian O’Connor. The nuptial ceremony was performed by Fr. Seán Jones. The bridesmaids were Clodagh and Tara Histon, Lauren Morrissey and Aoife O’Connor. The groomsmen were Gerard O’Sullivan, Cormac Haslam, Alex O’Connor and Christopher Barrett. The flowergirls were Gráinne Histon, Sarah Barrett, Emily Barrett and Robyn Fitzgerald and the pageboy, their son Brogan O’Connor. The reception was held at The Longcourt Hotel in Newcastlewest where everyone had a great day. Best wishes to the newly weds for the future.
On Friday last it was a happy day for Marina O’Connor (daughter of Josephine and Jim) who was married to Andrew Maher of Kilteely. The Humanist Ceremony took place at The Great Southern Hotel in Killarney along with the reception. The bridesmaids were Anne-Marie and Yvonne O’Connor, Ellen Mulcahy and Kevina Leahy. The best men were Derek, Ian and Stephen Maher and Jason Fitzgerald. Many family members travelled from abroad and the USA for the great occasion and all had a brilliant time. Sincere congrats to the newly weds and all the very best to them for their future happiness.
Those who will receive their Leaving results this week are wished all the very best and hopefully when the College places come out in the next few days all will get what they studied hard for.
In “repeating” what I said a couple of weeks ago about the danger on Falahees Bridge out the Glin Rd near the Templeathea/Lower Dirreen border. I was walking the other morning – hi-vis on, keeping well back from the bridge area when 2 cars “flying” passed each other on the bridge and with the bump on the bridge veered within inches of me – the driver got a fair fright or maybe he didn’t? I’ve heard so many complaining of the danger at this bridge – someone is going to get killed there and I hope my words won’t come to pass!
Mass for the Feast of the Assumption, August 15th, will be at 7.30pm on Wednesday evening – Vigil Mass and 10.30am on Thursday morning.
Only a couple of weeks now to the school’s re-opening and we all say “where have the summer holidays gone? And can you believe the Listowel Races begin on September 8th this year!
