Repair Work:
Following a recent executive meeting it was agreed that work needed to be done repairing the stand, as over the years iron pillars had rusted and parts of the roof etc need to be done. Also it is hoped, in the not too distant future, to put down concrete outside the dressing/meeting rooms as that area is quite wet in the bad weather.

Cúl Camp:
We had an excellent Cúl Camp last week with well over one hundred children taking part. It was a week full of fun activities, coaching football and we had Hurling on Wednesday. We had children from Mayo, USA and Spain taking part. On the last day all the children got a treat from the Ice Cream van which visited on Friday afternoon. We would like to thank all the parents who helped out in any way during the week; it was greatly appreciated by the club. We would also like to thank all the coaches who made it an enjoyable week for the boys and girls especially our own club members, Denis Greaney (camp leader), Jack O’Connor and David O’Connor.

U12 match report Wednesday 10th July.
Our U12’s travelled to Kilcolman last Wednesday evening. The game kicked off in good sunshine and both teams were found to be very evenly matched. It was Kilcolman however that got the breakthrough midway through the first half when Athea’s defence failed to deal with a high ball in. Half time was 1:0 to the home side. The second half started brightly for Athea and before long we received our just rewards as a cross from Jamie O’Mahoney was met by Louis Sullivan to finish at the far post. Athea were pressing hard but it looked, for a time that they wouldn’t get anymore from the match. Eventually though the pressure paid off when Kilcolman’s goalie could only parry a fierce shot that broke to the edge of the box to Eric Barrett, who neatly dispatched a low shot into the bottom corner of Kilcolman’s net. We created plenty of chances after this and could have easily won by more except for the heroics of the opposition’s goalkeeper. This was a great team performance by all and the boys who kept their heads even after going a goal down early in the match. Great credit is due all players, managers and supporters there on the night. Full time result 2:1 to Athea United.
Team: Tim Keeffe in goal, backs were Alex Quinn, Jamie Collins and Sean Twomey, midfield of Jack Sexton, Jim Ahern and Eric Barrett. Up front were Fionn Histon and Michael Kelly, subs Louis Sullivan, Jamie O’Mahoney and Jamie Lee Flynn.

Gaelic for Mothers and Others:
Training for Gaelic for mothers and others will take place on Tuesday evening in the field at 7.30pm. New members are welcome.
County:
We had six players all togging out for the county team last weekend. On Friday evening sisters Maeve and Claire Carmody both played against Kerry in The Munster ‘U20B’ final in Abbeyfeale. Then on Saturday afternoon Carla Sheehy and Rebekah Daly both played with the Limerick seniors against Kildare in All-Ireland Intermediate Championship and finally the Curtin sisters Michelle and Noelle who played with the Limerick Junior Camogie in Bruff. All players did extremely well and did Athea proud.
