Athea Utd A.F.C – A.G.M

Athea Utd held its A.G.M last Friday night at the Top of the Town, there was a good attendance and it was good to see newer faces there. The Officers that where elected is as follows:

Chairman: Pa Walsh, Vice Chairman: Gerard Ahern, Secretary: James McCarthy, Treasurer: Clare Ryan, Ass. Secretary: Tim O’Riordan, Ass. Treasurer: Kevin O’Keefe, CWO: Pat Hayes, PRO: Bobby Barrett.

Junior Delegates: Denis Murphy and Kevin O’Keeffe

Schoolboys/girls Delegates: Mike Flynn, Jackie Broderick and Mike Buckley.

We would just like to welcome the newer members to the committee and hopeful they will quickly settle into their new roles. Finally, I just want to thank the outgoing Chairman, Denis Murphy, Vice-Chairman, Ned White and PRO, Pat Mulvihill for their great service towards the club over the many years. Denis step down this year after being Chairman on and off over the many years and seen the Club go from strength to strength.

Ned White has contributed to this club both on and off the field over many years and has decided to let the next generation lead the way.

As for Pat, I think Pat is probably one of the longest serving members and most knowledgeable member on the history of this Club. Pat is known far and wide and is a very popular man in the Desmond league circles. Pat has decided to take a sabbatical but will be working in the background as he is in the process of putting an archive of Athea Utd together.

County League (Div 3):

A good win for Athea on Saturday evening last when they lined out against Mungret/St. Paul’s. They ended on a scoreline of Athea 1-19 to 0-16. well done to the boys.

On this Saturday evening July 6th Athea meet St. Senan’s in Ballyhahill at 7.30pm in Round 1. They are wished the best.

Hurling:

Well after the great win this past Sunday for both the Minor and Senior Limerick hurlers, no doubt it will have great inspiration for our newly set-up under-age hurling club and isn’t it wonderful! Armed with “hurleys and sliotars” they will go places hopefully.

Training:

U6, U8 & U10:

Training for U6, U8 and U10 continues in Páirc na nGael this Friday night at 6.30pm. All new players welcome.

U12:

Our U12 girls played Fr. Casey’s on Thursday evening last in Páirc na nGael. This was a very exciting match played in windy conditions on a warm evening. Playing against the wind in the first half we did quite well getting a few nice scores and went in at the break a few points down. The coaches made a few changes at half time switching players around and the whole team upped a gear. We scored some great goals and points and all the girls were outstanding. They were first to the ball, they were good in the tackle and most important they played as a team. When the final whistle went our girls had won by three points.

Panel:  Emma Scanlon, Anna Ahern, Molly Hunt, Leona Wall, Leah Wall, Stephanie Ambrose, Geraldine Carmody, Isabelle Buswell Barrett.
