This Saturday evening, July 27th there is a change in the mass time. Bishop Brendan Leahy realises that all Limerick will be glued to the hurling match at 6pm and has said to have mass times accordingly! Therefore the anniversary mass for Danny Mulvihill, Benny Collins, Micheál Kiely and the Crowley family will be at this time. Hope our prayers will be heard for Limerick!
A reminder that our Sacristan, Carol’s collection will be held on August 10th and 11th. Envelopes are available at the Church doors. Carol does a great job from always being there for masses, funerals, weddings, arranging the flowers, altar, organising the music and a lot more – so show your appreciation.
Well isn’t it fantastic news that ‘Nationwide’ are coming to visit our little village in August. This is a fantastic boost for our community and already the great Tidy Towns volunteers are putting in extra work to have the place looking at its ‘very best’ for the cameras. It is hoped that everyone will do their little bit and if anything needs fixing, painting or whatever that all hands will be on board and help out. We have a lot to be proud of – so lets show it to all TV viewers.
The death took place last week of Nora Mulvihill (sister of the late Mick Reidy and Josie Scanlon). She died in the care of the staff of St. Ita’s, Newcastlewest and had lived into her 90’s. Many paid their last respects on Saturday evening at Kelly’s funeral parlour. Burial followed requiem mass on Sunday. May she rest in peace.
I enjoyed Domhnall’s piece in last week’s newsletter about the different accents we hear all over our country. No doubt like many he’s watching ‘Love Island’ at the moment – with the Irish girl Maura asking her man Curtis – Do you Tink (think) I’m Tik—(thick)? And he asks what’s Tik? The ‘Th’ isn’t pronounced where she comes from and actually that’s the same in many places.
The Templeathea graveyard mass which had to be postponed twice will hopefully go ahead this Wednesday evening at 7pm – again weather permitting.
The annual parish pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Thursday, August 1st. Anyone wishing to go can give their name to Peggy Casey, Agatha Barrett or they can ring me on the above number.
Congrats to Padraig Horgan, son of Eileen and John, who recently got married to Mollie Burke of Cloonanorig, Tralee, daughter of Marie and the late Mossie. Fr. Patsy Lynch officiated at the nuptial ceremony in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney. The reception was held at The Killarney Oaks where everyone had a great day.
