Glin Parish Pastoral Council hosted a celebration last Sunday for Fr Crawford on his Golden Jubilee. It began with Mass at 1 pm to a packed Church. Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Tom Crawford , Canon O’Keeffe, Fr. Tim Curtin, Fr Austin McNamara, and Fr. Sean O’Longaigh. Fr Tom spoke about his years in various parishes in Co. Limerick as well as in the Missions in Nigeria which he loved very much. All the school children joined with the choir to fill the church with song. This was followed by an evening of food, music and song in Ceol Corbrai. The Glin Mens Shed members were on hand to direct parking. A beautiful buffet was served which was supplied by James Stack of Wallace’s Bar and Restaurant, Glin. James and his staff had it all under control and the food was delicious and plentiful. Children’s food was provided by Shakeel of Glin Grub. John Culhane, on behalf of the Pastoral Council thanked Fr. Crawford for his devoted service and commitment to the priesthood for the last 50 years and wished him health and happiness for his years ahead.
Belated congratulations to my neighbours James and Stacy Kenrick who got married recently. We wish them happy times ahead.
The AGM of the drama group Abha Bhan Players will be held in the Parish Hall on Thursday 4th July at 8pm. Officers will be elected on the night. Anybody who has an interest in joining the drama group is very welcome to attend and join the clan.
The Parish Outing will take place on July 9th. Seats are being filled very quickly so it is asked that those who have already booked to please confirm their reservation.
It is sad to hear that James and Dorothy Stack have closed down their business in Wallace’s Bar in Glin. James, in a Facebook post said “We would like to thank all our regular customers, our family friends and especially our staff. Unfortunately with consistent decrease in business, drink driving laws and the increase in vat on food we can no longer keep going. Again we would like to personally thank our wonderful staff who we consider friends now, without them we would be closed a long time ago.” Another local business gone, which is a great loss to the area.
All the primary schools are closing this week so I hope this nice warm weather stays on for a while so that they can benefit from outdoor activities. We want some nice summer weather but NOT a heatwave as is predicted.
