Mackey Draw:

This is the last week that you can buy a ticket for the Mackey Draw – the first draw takes place on April 27th with some fantastic prizes as always. Tickets are available from any of the committee and by buying one your are also helping our club.

Hurling:

Well hurling training is now in ‘Full Swing’ for all our young boys and girls each Sunday morning. It’s great to see the parents involved who help also with the coaching. Athea GAA are extremely grateful to the main sponsor who made all this happen – Tom O’Mahony (son of Mary and the late Jim of Coole, Athea) on behalf of his company ‘Maylim’ in the U.K. who donated a very generous sponsorship to start off this hurling club. It’s marvelous to see ex-pats not forgetting their roots. Athea N.S. will be holding a team school competition in early May. Here’s to Athea hurling.

Minors:

Our Minors travelled to Coolyroe on Friday last where they lined out against Bellvue – a 4 parish combination. Despite not winning there was a noticeable improvement in the team and considering that Athea being a 1 place team (not combined) we were not too bad!

RÁS na Mumhan:

This great race will be coming through Athea on this Saturday with a stop-off at our Páirc na nGael, indeed a great sight to behold the hundreds of cyclists donned out in many colours.

Coiste na nÓg:

Wednesday April 10:

U14:

Our u14s were at home to St.Senans on Wednesday last and despite losing they played very well on the night. There were good displays by Evan Curry, James Lee, James Broderick, Callum Buckley, Rory O’Mahony (who scored a great goal), Tomás Ahern, Calum Gleeson and Donnchadh Barrett. The best score of the night was a point scored by Jack Sexton in the second half after great work by James Lee, Jim Ahern and Sean Twomey. Team: Tomás Ahern, Calum Gleeson, Donnchadh Barrett, Fionn Histon, Louis O’Sullivan, Callum Buckley, James Hunt, James Lee, Tadhg Ahern, Rory Cleary, James Broderick, Jamie Collins, Ciaran Hunt, Evan Curry, Rory O’ Mahony. Subs: Sean Twomey, Jim Ahern, Jack Sexton, Callum O’Mahony all used.

Hurling Paraic Enright, TJ Hunt and Conor Mullane all played for Templeglantine U16 hurlers on Monday last in Coolcappagh against St. Kierans in the County Championship first round.

U10:

Our U10s played Mountcollins, Dromcollogher/Broadford and St.Senans in Raheenagh in the first U10 Blitz of the season. These are an exceptionally talented group of players. They played excellent football. Well done to all.

Croke Park:

Our U12s continue their preparations for their visit to Croke Park with a game against St.Senans in the first round of the U12 league on Thursday last. Despite some lovely football and some great scores, St.Senans were too strong on the night. The draw has been made for the National Go Games Blitz in Croke Park this Friday April 19. Athea will play Kildangan, Castlegregory and Mayfield. We will have a very early start but it will be worth it. There will be a great contingent travelling up to support our young boys and girls.

U6-U12s:

Training for U6 up to U12 continues in Páirc na nGael on Thursday evening from 6pm to 7pm. All new players welcome.

Gaelic for Mothers and Others:

Football training continues for Gaelic for Mother and others in Páirc na nGael from 7.30pm on Monday evenings. Everyone is welcome to come along for an hour of football, fun and friendship.

Football Blitz:

All our underage girls had a really great time on Saturday morning last at our underage blitz for U6s, U8s, U10, U12 and U14s. Despite a very strong wind blowing across the field, the girls showed great skill during the matches the played. They also enjoyed a few fun activities like the sack race, wheelbarrow race etc. There was welcome refreshment for players, coaches and parents in the Club house afterwards. It was great the underage girls being a hive of activity in Páirc na nGael. There was plenty of talent on show and the future of Ladies football looks bright in Athea.
