Athea GAA

Training:

Well the Intermediates are back training and despite last Saturday being a snowy and extremely blustery day, “they donned the training gear” and took to the pitch – ‘like ducks to water’. Here’s to a good playing season for them.

Membership:

GAA membership can now be electronically paid from this week on. On the GAA app you can also get all GAA fixtures and Athea match fixtures. Alternatively membership can be paid for individuals and families (which there is a discount rate for) by contacting Pat O’Sullivan, Kevin O’Keeffe or indeed any of the committee members. Membership is very reasonable and entitles you to be in the draw for All Ireland tickets etc. and with the great game Limerick played on Saturday – who knows there could be a ‘scramble’ again for tickets.

S.D.C.:

Well the poster for the forthcoming Singers-Dancers & Chancers fundraiser is prominently placed at Collins’ Shop. Tickets are now on sale at €20 and can be got at Collins’ or contact me on 087-1233361. You are urged to buy early as there will be a huge demand for them.

Practice sessions are going well with Cassie (instructor) and it’s emphasized that you don’t have to be part of the GAA Club to help out in an act and “strut your stuff” on the night. It’s helping out to clear off our debt and enjoy “a great show” that counts and we are sure there is more great TALENT out there so don’t be afraid – Training is on Tues/Wed nights at the Top of the Town. You can contact Paul Curry on 087-6501673 or Pat O’Sullivan on 087-2997628 if you would like to be part of this great show. It’s a real ‘community’ effort, so let’s all help.

The Club wishes to extend a “sincere thanks” to the main sponsors of this fundraiser namely-

Maurice Horgan, Garage, Athea

Top of the Town, Athea

Moss Brouder, Garage, Upper Athea

Paul Collins, Shop/Bar, Athea

Please support our local business people and keep Athea a thriving community. Our rural village will remain vibrant with everyone’s input and help.

Also if you would like to place an ad in the booklet for the S.D.C. night it would be greatly appreciated.

Well Done:

Well done to the Limerick hurlers “who braved the elements” on Saturday last in Limerick and played a great game against Tipperary. Well done also to the loyal supporters including those from Athea who stood in freezing conditions to cheer them on. Hopefully their ‘Winning Streak’ continues.

Progressive 41 Card Game for the Hope Foundation

Sarah O Connor and Alanah Scanlon would like to thank all those who support their card game for the Hope Foundation on Saturday night last. They would like to thank Betty and Johnny Cotter of the Top of the Town bar, all those who gave spot prizes on the night and a big thank you to the winners on the night who kindly gave back their winnings. It was greatly appreciated by the two girls.
